Which host fits?

Hey everyone,

I saw that DTR sells most of his diodes as well as in a module, with driver already soldered and pre-set. As I haven't built a laser yet but want to I looked into using those, as it would save a lot of work. Still one question that points out is, how do I know which host I can choose?
I've seen a lot of different hosts, from jayrob and sooner and more, but I don't see any size specifications, so how do I know whether the module fits inside or not? And also, when I get such a module from DTR, are there any other parts I need, aside from the build kit?

Yours,
Blizzard

Most of the kits listed around here will fit no problem. If you find one you like you can ask if there will be any issues with fitting. Some smaller hosts like the C6 may require a drilled pill if you plan on using a drop in but for the 445's they really better paired with bigger host anyway. Here are some vendors I recommend.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I see, "Skyray Host Kit W/ Heat Sink" says it fots all 12mm modules. Are all of your modules 12mm? It doesn't say in the description...

Yep they are 12mm and fit the Skyray perfect. It is a two wire install. Just connect the two wires from the host to the two wires from the module and set it in the heatsink. Very simple install and that host has amazing heatsinking for one that compact.;)

Sounds very easy indeed, sounds like a good host for a first build :)
One more question: what's the difference between a g2 standard lens and a g2 extended lens, is one of either better or will one or the other fit or not fit in the host?

The extended barrel is for those using units with custom focus adapters like one of Flaminpyro's or others that need longer threads that match how far the threads stick out with a three element lens so the adapters can be used with both without having to use a bunch of teflon or adhesive to get the right height in the adapter. It does not affect the way the unit focuses:)

Ones like these.
