I have a yobresal 1w 445 and the aixiz module was losse screwing it into the heatsink so as everybody said was a good idea to put Teflon tape around it and then screw the focusing piece back in. Well I have had it this way for about a month now and the Teflon tape is stuck in the threads. I cannot take it off now. Is this bad? Should I put more tape on it? Should I get a new aixiz module
And just screw the piece I news in the top with teflon tape on it or what?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Is the tape stuck in the threads on the outside of the lens assembly or the inside of the heatsink? A very fine brass wire brush will remove the tape from the threads. The inside threads on the heatsink would be harder to workwith but not impossible. Look at brass brushes used for gun cleaning. Not the stiff phosphor bronze bore brushes but the ones that look like a toothbrush.

Your question is kinda confusing.

I would first clean off the old tape the apply new tape. I wouldn't put additional tape on without removing the old.

And make damn sure the old tape has not left any little pieces in your module. Burning your diode window is not fun. I normally only put the tape on the top half of the threads to keep it as far away from the diode as possible.

If you ever do all of a sudden get a really nasty looking beam and loss of power while focusing turn your laser off immediately and check that nothing is getting fried by the diode right on top of the can and if you do see some burnt stuff try to clean the lens with some Q-tips and alcohol. Your chances are greater that you will be able to clean it off the less time it is on like this.;)

So is tape really that good if an idea if it could potentially damage your diode and module?? Should you change your tape very often? Anybody have any better recommendations for this or better methods? Maybe even less dangerous methods to your diode? All responses greatly appreciated

Try a combination of springs, one between the lens and diode and one around the O.D. of the lens assembly like this:

okay this is whats going on i finally just took a picture of what we need to see.

de2f1830.jpg

the left lens is the one in my yob 445. is this the 445 lens and the right one just a regular aixiz module? i just got my aixiz module and a few other things in the mail today and i noticed the lens nut you screw into the module is half the size of the one in my yob 445.

so is the one in my yob a 445 lens and the other one just a regular aixiz acrylic?

oh yeah and thats what i mean by the tape is threaded into the lens nut. its in there deep but is not in the heatsink/module or on my diode window or anything else. just on the screw in the picture you see here.

EDIT::::: i am trying to resize this image on photobucket to 800x600 but everytime i click save on there my macbook exits out of safari automatically???? anybody know why this is happening? this has never happened before and is not happening on any site and never has except when i am trying to save my edited image on photobucket.

I still say use a stiff toothbrush to clean the teflon out of the threads. I'd keep using teflon tape but as DTR states, just keep it away from the diode.
