Hey,

I just received my DX 70mw red laser in the mail (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9865)

I just tried to power it with a pack of 4 AAs, which should work. I connected the postive from the bat pack to the postive wire on the laser driver bored, same with the negative wire.

Nothing happened.

So, I disconnect the laser module and put in a LED. I connect up the power again. Nothing. I start turning the pot up and down. Nothing.

How should I go about troubleshooting this?

I have sent them a support ticket.

I don't really want to rma anything, i'm just wondering if theres any way I could fix it myself, or anything I should check...

check your battery voltage... also, check voltage across the LD out connector. with the LD in place.

The silver goo stuff isn't a bother. Its not hard, and the pot will turn easily.

Cheers!

The other thing to remember with these is that there is a 6 second delay before it will light the LD, it is all to easy to connect, assume it isn't working and then disconnect before it has time to lase....... well thats what I did anyway ::)

So what was the problem with your unit? Was the pot wedged at some insanely high resistance meaning that it didn't wanna lase?

I've just got mine up and running having soldered a USB cable onto the laser and it's great. I've set the focal distance to around 8 inches and it smokes/burns bags and electrical tape instantly.

I should really stick up a youtube video of it working, but I'm hoping to get an enclosure for it made before this.

Yes, that was the problem. The resistance was set so high it didn't lase.

I had mine running for over 2.5 hours and it gets slightly warm on the base and that's it. It's a nice little unit. Decent for burning too.

Yeah, now, how to get rid of the 6 second timer thing...

It says super cold, i am going to put a small chipset cooling fan in there just for fun.

The optics are not that good, can't seem to get a nice fine dot like my infiniti, but its great for $17.

Ill try to get some picts up.
