Not so long ago when i knew zero about lasers i foolishly bought a "3000mW" green laser from DHgate. I soon learned (without a power meter) that its probably about 50mW if im lucky. Im never going to try to re sell it because its worth next to nothing so im going to take it to pieces so i can get a better understanding on assembly of lasers. I dont want to force anything so any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated thankyou.

Ive got as far as taking off the very tip as pictured but im unsure if i should just stick it in a vice and just twist until the whole thing just...un twists itself.

Cheers:beer:

Not too discourage but that particular laser is a PITA to disassemble..
When you get inside, you will find that the LD is a 'direct press' and
an open can. There is no removable module, and only the driver and
crystals can be saved from the laser.

If you want to 'tinker' with a 532, your best bet would be a module from
olike or similar.

I have 2 of these hosts stripped down, and still havent done anything
with them. Purchased from DX about a year ago.

There is also no IR filter in those, and if you play around with the head open,
IR goggles should be worn. IIRC the pump diode is 4-500mW.

Also, if im not mistaken, there was a ton of glue on the threads holding the
rest of the 'head' on.

Try heating it at the point where the body gets wide at the base of the
head, then an old leather belt wrapped around it and place it in a vice.

Oh really? Thats a shame i was hoping i would be able to just tear it apart to see whats inside. So isnt it possible to scavenge anything from it do you think? Not even the diode or anything? I dont have any way to heat it...so ill prob just leave it as it is, or take a hack saw to it.

Thanks for the advice!

You can still make use of the driver for another greenie build,
optics, bonded crystal set, and of course the host. You dont
need much heat, just a simple butane torch will do.. Its just to
soften the glue which you still have to torque off the laser.

It may not be as difficult as some to remove as the QC is so
low on most of these, there may only be a drop in yours :san:

LOL, I wouldnt take a hacksaw to it though.. As it stands you
have a working 532 laser.. If you just want to look at the inside,
get that top off, and you can see the crystals and the expander
epoxied on top of it.. Not much 'wow' factor im afraid :undecided:

I hear ya.... Though all of my 'China' purchases are taken with a grain of salt ;)
When you pay a premium, its hard to ignore it..

Laser almost complete.. Its been another crazy week, and my
little girls b-day party today.. I had to take a couple of days off
as shes only gonna be 2, once :)

Been making a planetarium for her bedroom lol. GITD stars and all
the bells and whistles.

After tonight, im back to my regular schedule :eg:
