He-Ne PSU question

I need a variable PSU for He-NE Tubes.
I looked on eBay and can not find any variable laser PSU's, however I did find several electrophoresis Power supplys for decent prices.
Would these work as a He-Ne PSU? They can output 5K to 7K (max) @ up to 200mA
I know the start-up voltage is higher then this. Could a cap. be used with one of these PSU's to produce a start-up spike.
I want something I can use with all small to medium tubes as a tester. If the tube works, then I can buy a dedicated PSU for that tube.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Why not just spring for a 4ma supply, not enough to fry a small tube during a brief test.

It will also fire larger tubes, just not at full power.

I test with a $20 supply, no problems.

Just about a week or two ago, there was 5 HeNe tubes with supplies that went pretty cheap.

Thanks,I do have several 4 to 6.5mA PSU's, but i want to run the tubes at stated power and amperage to test the output and stability of the beam.
