I don't use protected batteries. Just make sure you have the correct charger, your home when you charge them, and don't discharge them all the way.

if you are looking for protected AA-sized lithium ion, there are protected 14500 at places like dealextreme and kaidomain.

Remember, these put out 4.2V fully charged, and will cut out at 2.6V, though it's best to keep them closer to their rated voltage. Li-Ions don't mind being recharged, and would rather be recharged than run flat.

Also, keep in mind that with a more expensive kit like those offered by members here, you can pretty well reuse most of the parts. My red LOC fits in an aixiz module, driver and all, so I could use a kit fitted to teh aixiz module (like most of the kits here) and just swap out aixiz modules.

I haven't personally tried any kits yet, but right now I'm having a custom heatsink made by FlaminPyro, and so far he's proving to be very thorough.

Where's your build at right now? Still in the "collecting parts" phase?

Here are the first tries at a heatsink for my minimag, they are accurate to within a few tenths of a millimetre. (That's bad.)
They still need polishing and set screws. The diameters are 22,0mm 18,7mm and 14,4mm, lenghts are 2,5mm 9-11mm* and app. 50mm. The bore is 12mm.
The cylinder in the lower left corner is 12mm in diameter, and if split with a hacksaw it could fit inside the sleeve as specific heatsink for a driver.
Now, where does one buy mag tail clickys in Denmark?:D

This is an attempt of a heatsink for my USB-stick, I have still not solved the problem with clicky, power source, driver, or how to recharge from USB plug. :D

*This depends on how much of the maglite pipe's tread one removes when opening the end.

What a pointless post!

There was no new information or valuable additions to be made in bringing back this thread.

After a year and you still haven't finished it?

You visit here once every three or four months, post once or twice with questionable contributions and now revive one of your threads like this?

Wise up and get involved or simply go away.

A rare -1 from me.

Apparently minimag tail clikkies are illegal in Denmark, will happily swap one for a heatsink.
