E-Bay Laser Diode, Need information on it.

I bought this on E-Bay for $10.00. Nothing to loose here. However I don't have much information on it, and I'm looking for anything you can tell me about it.

What I know so far:

  • Its 831nm
  • "LOP" 630ma
My guesses:
  • It is a multi Diode style laser
  • Fiber Optic output
Would like to know:
  • What is the polarity? "It has a single green wire"
  • Anything else you know about this style laser.

Hm i would try just touching random termanals until it works.. i do that for lots of things works good just takes awhile, Although i dont know if voltage in the wrong place will kill this one. Maybe you could ask the seller if he has or knows about a datasheet for it :-?

your best bet is probably to pop the lid and find out which pins go to what, those i think have a TEC, thermistor and other possible various electronic bits hooked to those pins

Well the seller doesn't have any info at all on it.
Also the pins are all jumped together to that green wire.
and yes it does say TEC by the pin connector.
The large box contains the Fiber Optic cable, The smaller block contains the diodes and is sealed shut.

O.K. I have more info...

The grenn connector with the single green wire is strictly for static protection. I have remove it and found 8 connectors with labels....

TEC [-]
Laser [A]
Therm [2]
Therm [1]
Laser [C]
MPD [A]
MPD [C]
TEC [+]

O.K. I understand TEC + & - Polarity
Laser A and Laser C: 2 LD's ?
MPD: I have no clue.
Therm 1 & 2 Thermal protection for each LD???

any more Thoughts?

TEC [-] - TEC Negative
Laser [A] - Laser Anode
Therm [2] - Thermister (provides feedback to cycle the TEC on and off)
Therm [1] - Thermister
Laser [C] - Laser Cathode
MPD [A] - Photo Diode Anode
MPD [C] - Photo Diode Cathode
TEC [+] - TEC Positive

Piece of cake!

LD A is Pos, LD C is - ( anode=+ Cathode=-)

Therms. are just a ressistor that increses with LD temp, no polarity.

Tec +, Tec-

The others are Photodiode to monitor output.

You from Belleville, Il?

Thanks Guys!
Makes sense now, I'll power it up tomorrow.
I think this was worth $10.00.

and yes I'm from Belleville, IL. Why do you ask?

i'd like to see how this thing performs, might buy one for myself if it's any good :)

Well it works. I have yet to have the TEC working with the LD, and I'm running it in short bursts. But it does burn foam. It has a large beam due to the fiber optics.
I believe its well worth $10.00.

I will try to power the TEC along with the LD and see if the power increases any. I will also try to focus the beam somehow.

well yeah, fibre optic lasers have very crappy beamspecs, and are a pain to focus, but they are good for just up close burning. Glad you figured it out!

I NEED THAT THING
Assuming the ebay auction is still available in a few weeks would someone be able to reship this for me so I dont have to pay $130 for UPS to australia?

I'm in St. Charles, I think you are the closest forum member.

That fiber/LASER could pump a crystal set real nice if it's 808nm.

I wonder if the wavelenth is close enough to pump a laser crystal for some stunning powerfull collimated beam?

It's close to 808nm.
