I have looked and looked and i cannot find a tutorial on building a dummy load for a PHR-803T Blu Ray Laser Diode i am sure its here i just cannot find it and i did find how to use it but i didnt quite understand it that well so anyhelp with a schematic for the dummy load and info on how to use it would be great...

Thnx

They are really simple. depending on the diode you are using you adjust the drop off voltage to match. for example for a PHR you would use 6x 1N4001 - 1N4007 diodes in series, head to tail, with all anodes pointing towards the negative. You then place a 1ohm 1-2w resistor in series with the diodes...

here is a pic that rog8811 made.

Red diodes have lower drop off voltage so you will only need 4 diodes. To measure the current, you place your DMM in parallel with the resistor and turn it to DCv at 200mv setting (make sure pot is turned down to prevent blowing the fuse, if you need the current set above 200ma then turn you DMM to 2000mv setting and do it the same way, but the decimals will have changed by a factor of 10)

If you would like, i can send you a free dummy load, for the price of shipping.that way you can see how it is supossed to work and you can make another one, for another diode working off my original. let me know! -Adrian
