Can LPC's and LOC's really be driven up to 5000mA or is that supposed to be 500mA? I noticed Kendall included a link to a graph of a 532nm module. If you're planning on adding green modules the two I know of are O-like small and large modules and SXD modules.

No, they're not :p Error is now corrected, thanks for pointing it out.

I'm not planning to add green modules YET. I think we've first gotta sort out all of the other DIODES. Then when we finish everything else we can start with green modules.

I just want to say that I thoroghly disagree with your PHR ratings here Niko..

I've had WAY to many complaints about PHRs dying unexpectedly even at 120mA, much less 150mA.. I recommend no more than 110mA for a decent life.. 90mA if you want to be absolutely sure the diode will last..

These figures are based on a fairly extensive lifetime test that I ran on several PHRs.

That was me that put those in. I'm guessing you meant 120mA. And yeah I could see if you don't have a heat sink on it the diode could die after a few hours of use at 120mA, depending on how long you run its duty cycle for.

Those won't even be the definate ratings we will be using since they all are so different. PHRs vary by a ton, so we will be coming up with a single linear function to define their behavior, the output of the function will be multiplied by a + and - X% to account for diode variablilty and error. It will take some time though. I'm currently doing this with the LG 8X diodes used in the murder experiments by IgorT. Thanks for the data Kendall?

Would you happen to have any Excel files that relate the diodes to current and power, as opposed to time and power? Thanks!

^I've been over that thread, but nothing compares to real-world experience... it is, after all, the real world. 90mA will pretty much reliably get you >4000 hours barring any unforeseen occurrences such as ESD or voltage spikes in the driver..

Also, the pinouts are all the same across all current enthusiast blu-ray diodes. The same applies to reds.

See that underlined text is the one that needs to be filled with info.

Could anybody tell me the LCC diode's name? I don't think it's recognized as the model number throughout the forum.

It's just the red diode from he GGW sled.. Since all the other diodes are named for the sled they were in, it adds a little confusion since the GGW has two good hobbyist diodes in it.. A would assume many 8X sleds have this diode or something very similar.

i think the 8x sleds have the 3.6mm, or flat diode...i've only harvested the BDR, which has the 3.6mm diode

I got a couple of the little (3.6mm) red diodes from the Pioneer BDR-203 and BDR-205 drives tested today.

First off, these things are a pain in the butt! The heat sink is covered in dark gray heat sink putty. Not only is it messy, you have to be careful not to get it onto the diode. These diodes are open can.

I purchases a couple of custom heat sink/modules from SightFX for them. Our current tools are NOT made for working with such small diodes. I ruined one getting it pressed into the head sink. I replaced it with my last one.

I tested them with a Rkcstr driver and a bench PSU set @ 7V. I didn't do a traditional 3, 5, or 10 slope. We have figured out that if there is a kink or knee, that even if we miss it in the initial test, the change in slope will let us know. Also my purpose was NOT to learn everything about the diode. I want to know if I can use them in my White Fusion build. I used a Virtual Village red lens. The pinout is the standard pinout for red burner diodes.

Here are the numbers:

The numbers do not appear to expose a kink or knee so I did not go back and increase the resolution anywhere in the test. Maybe a graph will "look
different <shrug> The numbers show it being more efficient than a LCC or LOC diode. At 420mA LCC's and LOC's put out ~245mW. The lens difference (VV vs. Aixiz) does NOT account for the entire gain.

The test took about 30 minutes. The laser was turned off only once (to graph for missed knees). The heat sink didn't even rise to room temperature!

Also what I had heard proved correct. There is no "line" going through the spot/beam like the LCC's and LOC's.

It looks like I have found my red diode for the White Fusion builds.

Pro's:
High power
Runs cool
No line through the beam

Con's:
No tooling
Messy
Too small for my fat fingers ;)
Open can

I've got a 12x BDR-205 drive on the way....so harvesting video will be available soon....being as they are both identical this will be good for both pioneer 8x and 12x drives.

Oh and i've got 3x GGW on the way for video harvesting also.

I've got an SF-aw210 on the way but i think it's already harvested....(one drew sells on his site). if it isn't then i'll record it too.
