So, I won another laser on eBay... heh -- I thought it might have been the HeCd that would complete my collection - well - I think you all know how this ends.

What I won, essentially, was a shipping box full of shattered glass and cadmium.

I'm out in Colorado in the middle of nowhere... Does anyone have any idea on how to dispose of cadmium? I basically paid for a hazmat "gift"... that's now my responsibility...

I know Cadmium is incredibly dangerous.

On the other hand, I really have to get in on this "Selling Broken Stuff on eBay / Do a Crap Packing Job but Charge $50 for Shipping the Slow Way from 2 States Away" business. I hear it's a growth industry.

What a rip! Did you file a complaint or atleast get a refund?

In the process of pursuing it. Item was just delivered late Friday so it's not been that long. If I have to, I'll paypal dispute, but I'm giving him the chance to respond through a message first.

What really bothers me is - I wouldn't have accepted the item from FedEx if I could possibly have not accepted it. Meaning, they dropped it on my porch and drove away. No chance to "not accept" the thing.

So now it's my responsibility. (whee.) I just have no clue how to dispose of something that contains cadmium. We have hazmat pickup here, for stuff like paint; I don't know if they'd touch a shattered HeCd laser. I'm not sure if the same trash service that would pick up paint cans, motor oil, household chemicals, etc - could handle cadmium. I'm guessing probably not.
