it doesn't matter if you have 2400 or 3000mAh - it's only the CAPACITY of battery, not the max current. 2400mAh means it can give 2,4A for 1 hour, or 1,2A for 2 hours, or 4,8A for 30 minutes etc.

Thanks. Makes sense. But I guess the supplied battery could still be a dud so I'll order a couple of ultrafires and let you know if it makes any difference. I've found that with my other lasers, you only get full power if the battery is in tip-top condition. Any drop in voltage and the power goes right down. Hopefully a new battery will get me up to 500mw....

With a 500mW green the current draw on the battery will most likely be in excess of one amp. That will usually cause a significant voltage sag (as well as resulting in a much faster drain than you might expect, as the capacity is for a standard 0.1C =10 hour discharge). Try getting a good battery for high current draw.

Thanks. Are ultrafire generally regarded as good batteries?

To be fair to DX, I've bought three lasers off them and all did what was on the label.
Lucky you. How about the rest of the members here? The hundreds of lasers we've bought which were >90% of the time far below spec? We know exactly what we're talking about. With DX it's hope for the best, expect the worst. I wouldn't go classifying them as a dependable quality laser distributor just yet. I'm telling you this for your own good, sir.

I have the impression that the performance of hi-power greens form DX, FP et al is improving recently. If true, the question would of course be: will it last?
