removing the original acrylic lens from its (black, threaded ) aixiz housing:

screw the lens-module into the aixiz module so its flush. just like you would do to collimate a laser. use a plastic pen (and a layer of tissue paper in between) to push the acrylic lens in. the first time its quite hard, afterwards a q-tip is enough. no scratches are visible, i didnt even scratch the coating from my virtualvillage lens! no part of the lens-module (acrylic lens, threaded housing, back-"cap") gets damaged.

I just thought about that : can you use a lense from a GGW?

I have 4...

The sled has twin lenses, there's no distorsion and the coating is made for blu-ray only, not red and BR. I'll try that when I'll return form vacation; in 2 weeks.

Oh ya, does anyone no wich of the two lenses is the BR AR coated?

I would think that all optics that are in the BR beam path should be coated. I see no reason why using a GGW lens shouldn't work at least as well as the 803T lens. Go ahead, try it and tell us your findings!

multi-coated lenses lose a few % over 405nm-only coated lenses, according to the numbers of the various people experimenting with higher-quality-lenses here. perhaps you would get an even better dot with the 405nm-only lens? all these are aspherics, so perhaps its "tuned" for 405 only, focal-point-wise or something? just a guess!
perhaps the gain for red (over other lenses) is even higher (with the red lens)?
look at the coatings.. the red one should look blueish. the 405nm one? no idea, tell me! :)

try it, would love to see your findings as well!

^ the only one lens that i have coated for blue, is looking a very light yellow-orange color, on reflex, but i only have one, and don't know for sure if all have the same coating type, sorry.

Think mine is something like MgF2 coating, is a recovery from an old instrument, and was used with UV.

Ok, thanks for the help, but I'm still not sure about how to remove the lense from the arylic aixiz...

^ mine was hard to remove ..... lot of glue, between the threaded part and the holding ring ..... anyway, if this can be helpful for you, i just took out one, taking some pics.

first, screw the lens holder in the module, reversed

attachment.php

this is optional, if you need the inside part with the diaphragm, or if you don't need it, just jump over, if you instead need the inside part without the diaphragm, maybe for glue or press fit another lens, take the diaphragm part out before dismantle it, otherwise it can be very difficult ..... i made it with a little cutter that i built myself, in the way you can see here

attachment.php

this way you obtain a full and clean opened part, as you can see (and no risk of scratches on the lens :D)

attachment.php

at this point, if you're lucky and got those holders that are not completely filled of glue, you can jump to the next step, if instead you have same as me, those ones that are filled of glue, need to cut around (making an incision on all the glue), with a little blade, for get it unglued more easy

attachment.php

then, unscrew the lens and screw in again reverted, as in the figure (left a little bit of space, but not too much out)

attachment.php

now, take a piece of round plastic, more tender than the acrilate, if you can find it, and put it on the lens through the front aperture, with a piece of fabric on it, just for not risk to scratch the lens, in case you want to save it for other uses (i use a little cilinder of plastic of 4,5mm diameter, that i had around, that enter in the front aperture and also left a bit of space for the fabric)

attachment.php

and with a hammer, gently but firmly hit the cilinder, til the lens and the back holding part pop out (just don't massacre it too much :D)

attachment.php

and this is that what you obtain at the end ..... and as you can see, no scratches on the lens, too :)

attachment.php

This is just one of the systems, anyone can have different ones ..... anyway, in all this time, i always used this one, and ruined only one lens, but for my guilty ..... i was not finding the plastic cilinder, so used the first thing that come me in hand, and that was a widia alesator, and unfortunately, widia is more hard than acrylate :p

Hope this can help you :)

What I did to dismantle the Aixiz lens: I put a watchmakers screwdriver through the small aperture hole and then levered the lens holder out: insert the screwdriver at a shallow angle, then push down with some force (so that the screwdriver tip lifts up) but taking care not to rip the lens holder plastic. Then repeat this, "walking" the screwdriver tip around the circumference to loosen the holder all the way round. Sooner or later you'll feel that it's giving & lifting a bit, after that it's out quickly.

Thanks alot, that was helpful; and if I get good results with the GGW lense, I'll make a tutorial update, and if I get your permission, I'll post those pictures because they're great.

strange.. i got my modules from aixiz directly, the 20pcs bag. no glue there. i push the stuff right out. its a bit pressed in, but after the first opening (putting all together again and again pushing the lens out) i can push it out with a q-tip, holding the lens in my hand.

where did you get your modules, if these were glued? DX or similar? and how far do the threads reach in? all the way down, as for the "original" aixiz ones?

Directly from Aixiz, some months ago ..... and now just got other 20 ones, and checked them, they have less glue than the old ones, and pop out more easily ..... maybe different lots of production, don't know .....

on the oldest ones (like, 6 or 7 months ago, i still have no older ones than these), as example, there was so much glue, that the only way for take out the lens, was cut all away, ruining also a bit the thread (plastic deformation) ..... in these ones, instead, it's more easy, and i save much more the thread of the holder

Edit: pic posted :)

That could be it. I got the module (used in this mod) from DX, and they're probably cheaper (less glue). But this was before DX changed their supplier..

Do we know yet if this will work with SW-AW210 optics? Can someone find out for me, please? :D You would have my gratitude, +1 (or more, we'll see) rep, and cookies (not real ones, ethereal, but I'll absolutely pretend to want to give you real ones :D

Pretend cookies?! Yay! What kind??

~IDEA~
If I pretend to test the SW-AW210 optics can I get the cookies? I would presume of course that you would keep your real gratitude & rep, I just want cookies! Cinnamon sugar please.
