Alright so I just recently took an interest in lasers, and I want to make my own. Does anyone know how I could get started? I want it to be handheld blue laser, and preferably 1W+

How much would this cost? How would I go about doing this and where would I get the parts? Any help would be appreciated.

Note: I looked at some tutorials, but I don't really know where to find the parts.

You can PM Qumefox about the host. I think he said he may have one more batch of these hosts coming in last I asked. The new ben boost driver with the round board when the start getting made might be a good option for this host. Otherwise the ones that Moh has on preorder. Or you could use a microboost or flexdrive if you can find one. As for the diodes, modules and lenses I have those.

If you look at my site I have a diode in a module with leads and a glass lens for $64

You would need a driver and if you go with the new ben boosts they are $10 plus shipping.
http://mohgasm.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=30

If I remember correctly the host from Qume was about $50-$60.

You will also need a battery ~$10. Use these or the unprotected ones that LaryDFW sells. This host will not fit a protected cell.
LG Lithium 18650 Cylindrical Rechargeable Cell: 3.7V 2600mAh (9.62Wh))

You would also need a battery charger and there are many options on the cheap side I would say about $5.

And finally safety glasses. $41 plus shipping.
I suggest these.
Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Standard Laser Safety Goggles

So for the laser you are looking about $130-$140
For the batteries and charger plan to spend about $15
And $45 for safety glasses.

So if you need the full package you are looking about $190-$200:beer:

The Ben Boost Driver - $10.00 : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.

Thanks, luckily I have that much money. For the boost driver, what output do you recommend?

don't forget the goggles. 1W+ will blind you instantly in a direct hit. even glossy surfaces could cause serious damage.

Don't worry I stare at the sun a lot, I'm sure 1W is nothing. I will be sure to point it at my eyes when I get it built!

I'm kidding, I will definitely NOT forget goggles.

Maybe a 5 to 20mw green would be better to start with than spending All your money on a 1 watt that you will probably find to complicated to complete any way. You'd be amazed at how bright small green lasers are if all you've messed with is cheap reds. Also if you start with the biggest and best what do you have to look forward to?? Just a thought..

No, what's the point in making a laser with such low mW? I will not find it to complicated to complete, I am determined and have done many projects like this in the past, and am currently in a high school engineering class. Thank you for your negativity, but it is not needed.
