I'm really not very experienced at all with lasers. I purchased this particular module here: Violet Purple Blue Laser Module Focused Dot M405D80-3-1670: 80mW 405n

From ankaka.com. So I figured since I had no other power source and had read on this forum that it would work, I first taped 2 AA batteries together and attached the black wire to + and red to -. I got nothing... So I tried the same thing with 2 AAA batteries and the same results; swapped the wires and still nothing. I attached and image with the wires disconnected.

Any idea what the issue may be? I figure it should work since the stated operating voltage is 3-6V. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Is it possible its just a diode without a driver?

Well in case anyone is wondering, I tried a 9V battery and it works! Hooray! Unfortunately, the beam is VERY unfocused. Does this type of module housing accept different lenses? And where can I possibly procure such a lens?

You got it backwards

Also, twist the front end to change the focus.

Yah, I realized after I talked to a customer service rep. They told me that some of the lasers on the site had mistakenly indicated the wrong wires. Also apparently the voltage listed was wrong, as they told me to use a 9V and it works.

As far as the lens goes, its twisted as far clockwise as it goes, the other direction just further un-focuses it.
