I recently came across this article on one of the blogs I read.

DRebsdorf.net

It's a very interesting project that I would like to attempt!

I am wondering, however, if it is possible to adjust the amount of current going to the laser with an Aruindo or another micro controller. Is it even a good idea to adjust the current during operation?

I was thinking, that I may have to have a physical part that would turn potentiometer.

Any comments, help or tips would be appreciated! :thanks:

Of course you can the current while it's running this is done all the time in laser projectors :yh:

Thanks! Didn't know that. Do you know how I would go about adjusting it digitally?

Analog drivers do exist. If you want to DIY one with an Arduino, try using a digital potentiometer. http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10613
More importantly, you do not need to adjust the current other than turning it off and on. This can easily be done with a TTL driver. Combined with good timing, you can create other shades of green on the phosphorescent surface. Phosphorescent Laser Painting - Hack a Day

Wow, is that sped up, or does it really plot that fast? I'm guessing he didn't use servo's to do that.

I do not believe it is sped up. He is likely using galvanometers, similar to the ones used in laser scanners / projectors / shows.

That sounds complicated... I'll stick to what I know for now. Thanks for the help!
