200mw red laser module help

so my cousin bought this, RED LASER MODULE and we cant see to power it... we were using a cr2 or a cr123 battery watever their called,
with the negative battery to the spring and positive to the case and made sure we pressed the button while everything was connected.
im not completely noob to lasers so dont flame at me, i know the case is positive and the spring is negative and stuff. i have made my own
50mw green laser and know a little about lasers. but im not sure what im doing wrong with the module... and cant seem to figure it out.

if any1 knows whats wrong or what could possibly be stopping the module from working please leave a post.

Have you tried using the spring as a positive connection? most red lasers are case negative.

*Edit* Actually looking at the link it looks like the pads on the side of the spring are for connecting the power. Solder wires to the pads and they have "+" and "-" Markings above the pad. Just be careful with the CR123 Battery, is it 3.2V or 3.7V? Because you want 3V and if these are the same drivers that the green lasers use, it won't handle the excess voltage well.


*Edit 2* here's a photo of what I mean, its from the page you linked to, but I just showed where the pads are.

The link says 3.7v is ok. 3.7v is usually ok in greens too. Spring should be + like Fretwrecker94 said, good catch on the markings for wires too

Oops didn't see that. seems like an alright module... even if it is probably underspec

If it works, you could put it in any green laser host and just flip the battery. Wonder why there aren't more of these out around?

If I had to guess, its probably due to its size. It's easier, but bigger.

so you guys were right it turns out the red module is case negative, but now when i get the laser to power on it only lasts for 1/2 a second and is really dull, low powered. it hardly even looks as if it is more than .5mw.

any ideas? u rekon the laser has been killed?

Edit* The battery i used to test the red module was a cr123A battery which is 3.0v . This exact same battery has been used to operate my green laser for the past 2months. do u think that maybe the battery has lost volts or watever and i need to get a new battery? maybe a 3.6v battery? i could try 3 rechargable AA's. do u thinks this would solve the problem

Try either using a fresh cr123 that's rated at 3.7V or lithium ion battery. They're rechargeable! :)

You may have damagd it with reverse polarity connections.

If the spring itself is isolated, it looks like you can set up the polarity according to your host with a solder bridge from either the positive or negative pad to the spring. Just be sure the module casing is electrically isolated from the host. Hope it's not already too late.
