Good afternoon.

I am having an odd issuewith a 1.2 watt lazerer rifle I purchased a month ago. It arrived in good condition, and I had no issues. I ordered the batteries seperate to avoid any customs issues. I have several surfire CR123 3.0v left over from my days in the Army, and popped them in to make sure it worked. Seven day return time.

The 3.7v batteries showed up a few days ago, and today I really got to play with the charged batteries. I immediately noticed the power gain. It was performing like advertised, melting rubber and burning through the wood portion of matches. However, it now will only turn on for a few seconds and cease to work with the 3.7v batteries. I can press the on/off button but it will not turn on for at least several minutes, and then the behavior continues.

With the 3.0v batteries no such problems arise. I will get a steady beam.

I have used the laser within all guidelines, never leaving the laser on past the recommended duty cycle.

My only experience with electronics involve assembling my own computers and automotic systems. I do not have any knowledge of soldering.

That being said, does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this issue?

This is greatly irritating to me, and makes me rather disappointed in my purchase from Lazerer.

Possibly an overheating driver from the extra voltage?

According to Lazerer, it is rated for the 3.7 V batteries.

It will stay on for maybe two seconds at most, then turn off. The host does not feel warm to the touch when the beam stops. I immediately turn the power off in case the juice is still flowing to the diode.

Could be an issue with the driver. You would have to pull it all apart and test it with a test load and a DMM and see whats happeneing.

contact max, sounds like the driver is over heating. they used to just cover those things in thermal paste and it doesnt do a great job of managing heat. he will help you fix/replace it if needed

The trouble with writing is he seldom responds. I wrote him several times during the order phase, and he took weeks to respond, and he never truly answered my questions. The accessory kit had two broken attachments, and he said "How they should be". I have less than zero faith in his ability to help a customer.

However, to cover my own base and give him a fair chance before I bash him on the forums I will write him.

see this comes to shock to me since every time i emailed him, he responded within 24 hours every time except one where it took 3 days to respond. he gladly replaced my laser which the threads got locked together. emailed him right when i got it, left on a cruise the next day and checked my email right before me left. he said no problem, send it when you get back in over a week. did and got my replacement within a month

I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Shot him an email, have to wait and see at this point.

reason why you havent reached him is that isnt his email.......thats his emails display name. if you email that it should come back as non-receipt from your email

his email is lazerer@gmail.com or at least thats how he has always contacted me

it could be a battery issue. protected cells cut off abruptly, and the blue ones lazerer sends suck. can you get your hands on some other 16340s? 18350s will also work, and actually fit better inside the host, I know all these things from experience. note i typed 18350s not 18650s, big difference

In my experience, Max is terrible at responding to pleas for help, only questions before buying. good luck with that laser, I've got the 1500mW one and love it

The 3.0V are simple surefire batteries, CR123

The 3.7V are UltraFire 16340, 880 mAh

If this can assist anyone in helping. I greatly appreciate everyone's help.

Does it take 2? If so thats an extra 1.4V and although it was intended to be used with them there may be an issue with the driver falsely believing its overheating. Or if they are protected cells they could be shutting them selves off. Though I doubt it because you mentioned it will remain off for a while. Sounds more like a cool down period to me

couldnt he try 1x 3.0v and 1x 3.7v? i dont mix batteries ever nor do i know if it is alright to do it so someone correct me if im wrong.

do you have a DMM to check the voltage of the batteries?
