General rule of thumb. Single element lenses = more power. Multi element lenses = better beam characteristics. So it all depends on your goal.

On single mode diodes I usually always use single element lenses because the dot is usually clean enough as it is. I generally always use 3 elements with 445's though because they tame the 'line' a LOT.

For reds I use my AR coated acrylics. I just wish there was a cheaper single element alternative to the 405-g-1 for 405nm even if it wasn't quite as optimized. Acrylics aren't very workable there due to the yellowing that happens with them due to the UV.

Yeah ive just been playing around with the different lenses i own, i originally bought the 405-G-1 for my 2W 445nm.

I have some AR acrylics in the mail: 660nm/405nm PMMA Collimating Lens/M9 P0.5 Frame 2pcs (eBay item 260555219850 end time 13-Jul-11 18:13:32 AEST) : Business Industrial

so i will see how they compare.

Those are the same ones I carry so you'll probably notice some improvement and probably get over 300mW.

Mitch let me know how those 660nm AR coated acrylic lenses work out I might have to place an order for a few myself if they are better than the 3 element aixiz glass lenses for the reds.
Nice job on the graph and measurements. ;)

Hey just tested the Aixiz 3 Element Glass, 405-G-1 & the PMMA AR Coated 660nm Acrylics.

Diode: LPC-815

Driver: Flexdrive V5
Current: 412mA

Battery & Voltage: Sanyo 2600mAh 18650
Tested Voltage: 4.083VDC

Distance from Lens to LPM: 80mm

Aixiz 3 Element Glass

Ouput Power: 245mW

PMMA AR Coated 660nm Acrylic

Output Power: 250mW

Guidesman660nmAcrylicARCoated.png

405-G-1

Output Power:300mW

Guidesman660nm405-G-1.png

Conclusion

The 405-G-1 is the winner at 300mW
The PMMA AR Coated 660nm Acrylic is in second at 250mW
The Aixiz 3 Element Glass is in third at 245mW

The 405-G-1 delivers 20% more power than The PMMA AR Coated 660nm Acrylic and 22.44% more power than Aixiz 3 Element Glass.

The PMMA AR Coated Acrylic 660nm delivers 2.04% more power than Aixiz 3 Element Glass.

I was thinking the PMMA AR Coated 660nm Acrylic would make a lot more than 250mW but that is not the case here.

Now i will acquire a 650-G-1 and compare, stay tuned!

How did the beams compare? Can you measure divergence? I'm interested to see the divergence comparison from G-1 lens to the Aixiz lens.

That's in line with my testing on these acrylics. I got around a 2% increase over aixiz glass as well.

As far as beam comparisons you should also state how much 'splash' there is with each lens as well.. Pure power is only part of the equation after all.

My experiences in this area indicate that the aixiz will have the 'cleanest' output, the AR acrylic will be 2nd, and the 405-g-1 will have the worst output.

i agree.

the 405-G-1 and a loc have a different shape dot.

Have you got a 650-G-1 lens? wonder how they go, might get a hold of some.
