Who Makes Hi Power Red Pointers WITH Drivers?

In my search for a high-powered off-the-shelf red handheld/pointer, I've found that many of them don't have any driver electronics for the laser diode, which is unbelievable to me.

You can get 5mW red laser modules with built-in drivers for $4 apiece, and yet they can't spend a few bucks to put a driver in a $250 red pointer? :-? That makes exactly zero sense. There is no excuse. I'm not going to buy a pointer that might die because I put lithium batteries in it instead of alkalines or NiMHs.

If you know of a high power (100+mW) red diode handheld or pointer that you know is actually built properly, that is, WITH driver electronics, please post it in this thread!

I'll be posting my results of a "200mW" red like those on Spymode shortly. SenKat can probably provide more details on where to find those. They are deeper into red and aren't really as powerful as SenKat's readings indicate I think, but they are WELL REGULATED (as they need to be running off two lithium 3Vs), and still meet your 100mW mark.

Well my red "glowtorch" pointer hit the 237mw mark constantly - runs off of 2X cr123 lithiums, and set me back approx $200.00 It looks EXACTLY like the ones pictured at "spymodex" but less $$ !!! The optics are focusable, and man, this thing smokes. Uhm, yeah - it is 650nm, and it reads just fine on my Coherent Lasercheck at 237mw all the time. No peak, no dipping - constant. Maybe I got lucky ? We'll see when I get the other one shipped to me, I bought two, one was DOA, and I am patieantly awaiting it's return to me !

I'll try making a post about it soon, however I think the true wavelength is close to 670nm. As such the readings are throw off a bit. At 650nm I'm getting>220mW readings too, and I don't yet have a thermal head, but in comparison to other reds I've seen, and a side by side comparison to a 660nm 210mW Orion, I'd say its at least as deep into the red as 670nm and probably truly doing closer to the 150-200mW range. Its still a decent deal though, they burn amazingly well with a lens, and have great divergence without. (well, that pretty much summarizes what I was planning on saying anyways... I wonder if this means I can be lazy and not post the results :D)

That's good news. I've seen the Spymode/Glowtorch unit online and it looks like a worthy candidate, especially if focusable, although it does concern me that one of Senkat's units was DOA. That's too bad, but it gives us all a chance to see how they handle replacing it. This particular laser appears to be available under several names. Any idea who actually manufactures it? Glowtorch has a site on which they offer a green laser, but no reds to be seen, and the ebay seller that Senkat purchased his from is not currently offering any as of the date of this post, which makes me wonder about availability.

Lucent Optics is supposedly looking into adding high power reds to their line; it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Dang - I cannot believe he is sold out ! Maybe, unlike other sellers, he is waiting until he gets more in before selling them - that way he doesn't sell them before he gets them ? Sorry, man :(

I found the Spymodex red laser page at h t t p://w w w.spymodex.com/laser004.htm (remove the extra spaces - I cannot post clickable links).

These look like the same ones Glowtorch is selling, and the price for the 200mW is USD205.

Some of the descriptive text is misleading and/or in error, hard to tell if it's intentional or ignorance by the company or their website editor.

Checking further into the ebay seller glowtorch-touchthesky's feedback history, these sold in the USD150-200 range most of the time, which is less than the Spymodex price, and it looks like there have been some problems with some of them. I wonder if he is reselling the Spymodex product or is buying them directly from the manufacturer (I assume China), because it does not appear to me he's making a profit if he's getting them from Spymodex.

AH-HAA! I did some sleuthing, and look what I found. That 200mW red appears to be made by Guang Zhou A-Laser Tech. Corp. - there's a pic on the site that matches it.

Ragnarok, just FYI on the link you posted, I would be a bit careful about that because I've seen there are many Chinese reseller sites claiming to be the OEM (you would be surprised how many different companies are the OEMs to Leadlights and CNI black/golds if you trusted the internet), as well as many sites that look like outright scammers.

They don't seem to have their own website but are linked through one of those "business portal" type of sites. They list green laser module capability to 200mW. There is contact info.

Nope, not a Viking, but the handle refers to a "Last Battle" which I feel is getting closer every day - a reset of the global economic system from it's current unsustainable state.

i had thought that ragnarok was from norse mythology and indeed refers to a last battle in which only a few survive. if our economy collapses would you want to be a viking?

In that situation, whether or not you're a Viking doesn't matter. If you want to continue on that topic, post in "Off Topic", as I want this thread to remain on topic.
