I like the power of that diode, but the divergence is rather high and the wavelength a bit long. If you need the power for something, that is one thing, but if you just want a bright beam take a look at the difference between 1 watt of 638nm and 4 watts of 660nm:

I don't think you will see that 11% difference.

I'm just going for some of the rarer builds. I'm probably going to sell my common builds soon as I quite enjoy searching for more difficult lasers and diodes.

I just like being able to say that I have a custom build that would be tedious or difficult for someone else to try and obtain

I want to build with that diode too, but don't have the money to pour into that right now, if I could find the diode. What I would do is expand the beam to several inches to get the divergence down. I keep thinking about the relative perceived brightness being close to the same as a over driven 700mw 638nm red diode, so that cools my jets some, I guess that's the larger reason I can't seem to dig up the money for one. If I were going to build, for my wants, it would probably be better to PBS cube combine two 700mw 638nm laser diodes pushed to 1 watt each and then expand that.

I can appreciate the desire for a rare 660nm high power red laser, I've never seen posts regarding one showing the beam, except for Styro's photo's.

Yeah, I'm fairly young with a good job at the moment so I save up bits of my pay checks for bigger builds like this. I haven't had a 660 before and I'll definitely make sure to get lots of pictures

CDBeam mentioned getting a driver that took about 8 seconds to reach full power at 4A. Do they have a driver like that?

That driver requires you to supply your own heat sink. I know, I tried it just for a couple of seconds without one, poof!

That chunk better either have some mass, or a lot of heat sink fins for the amount of heat dissipation it will need to deal with. I just wanted to mention it, but probably preaching to the choir on that
