Case positive is common for high power laser diodes because the emitting stripes are made near the surface of the positive side of the dies, so they mount it that way to avoid heat flowing through the chip and cooking it. Even case negative diodes are usually positive side down, just there is an insulating barrier made of either boron nitride or beryllium oxide- sometimes even DIAMOND!- put between the + side of the diode and the case.

:-/ i don't get it... any pictures?

jamilm9: why would I waste a perfectly good $2.99 to get a piece of low quality metal that looks hideous, when I have a Meredith glass module... The diode deserves more than DX
If your cheap like me.

Where did you get that 900mA driver? I am somewhat curious...

Well, I didn't get it yet but I have asked rkcstr to make me an 850mA driver when I get this diode. ;D (your the best rkcstr!)

I have this diode here laying already for a while.
Still need to test it. Will see if I have the time for it next week.
My plan was to put it in this housing  ;D
But if somebody makes a nice offer .... ::)

and a second picture of the housing:

With  8 degree //  and 24 degree _|_  you can make a nice beam   :D
And this housing have sone beam correction optics to reduce the 24 degree _|_
Also is there already a TEC cooler build in and I guess all optics are AR coated for 670nm.

Hmmz, I got it from ebay a while ago. I can't remmeber what I payed for it.
Actually I din't knew that I still had this diode, this thread remembered me about it.
But because it came from Ebay I need to test this diode first.
I have no idea what a reasonable offer is, also don't know what the new price is.

Because you are ordering it from a company. It will be cheaper if you order them in bulk, but don't even think about buying one. 20mW blu-ray laser diodes from Sanyo are $2000 if you want to buy one.
