Hi Folks,
A small build for a Sunday afternoon with a 638nm dye i had sitting around.
So i figured i give it a home in a chromed Ehgemus AL host, It's light weight and perfect for this Red build. In it is;;

Oclaro 700/638nm diode
Xdrive set to 1A
G2 Lens=812mW
2-18350 AW cells ( which were low on charge oops ) The mW's could have been significantly more. Hope you like the pics guys and gals..

Rich:)

Is that a press fit, it looks it I saw you mentioned on the other thread its able to do 1.8A but only getting 1A on the xdrive but 800mw on low batterys still sounds good to me. I am underestimating red lasers and what they are capable of in general. Probably cause they were available for the longest and I lost some of the appeal of them but recently I bought a cheapie 301 that peaks at 190mw and do have fun with it and one of Pmans focus one from time to time. Sorry for highjacking this a bit but the more you build the more I like:beer::)

Hi G,
No high jacking here opinions are always welcome. I appreciate you guys for commenting and checking out my stuff. Folks here are so cool that's what i love about LPF and all the intelligent info everyone has to offer. Hey the Reds are great i like them And all the other awesome WL's to go with it.I was bored so i threw this one together more than likely i'll take it down to get more out of this dye.

HiG,
Oh forgot to mention sorry no it's not a press fit personally i don't care for them there to permanent If a dye fails or a driver i have to fight with it to get it out, and that's a no no in my book. That's why they make Arctic Alumina for sinking it takes up all the micro voids for better sinking..

You can brace your camera gently against your laser tripod/mount top edge and get a stable pic looking down the beam, it makes a nice beam shot.

I have thought about putting several of those in a flashlight head to make a super red spotlight, the wider spot size would mask any minor misalignment not compensated for in thread play.

Most of all it would look really cool, in a red hot cool kind of way.

Nice bright red beamer.

Thanks it kind of looked it but yes I remember when you decided that press fit wasnt the way for you anymore and you started honing and and fitting set screws on your hosts. To many possibiltys with the nice hosts you have an still are collecting:) My mornings always start with a quick check in of this forum and logging of and on all day its kinda my life now:eek: but in a good way. Great members, good people........RedCowBoy that pic technique does sound good

Hi GSS,
Yes press fits scare me diodes are luck of the draw to. Even though i'll put them in a lab sink with cooling to see safari as roll back. Drivers to are not always on the money either some times. I'll buy a press fit host antsy but it will be no more after i get done with it. Boring it out and then drill and tap No Problem Pal..
Hey my life isn't all cherries to, i go to work come home Shower eat and on LPF.. No different really ,once in a while i do yard work..

And yes Red cowboy planted a seed in my head a new quest for me now , My ultimate beam shots with a little Cannon Elph..

Hi ,
I couldn't wait to alter this build, Wasn't happy with the output. I knew this dye could do a lot better. So i swapped out the1A xdrive for a boost drive set to 1.22mA what difference .And modified the tail cap with a spring worked out great..
So here are some new readings

Oh boy Lifetime, you do need laser AA:whistle: Is this the scenario? you had put everything away, sat down to relax and watch TV and then the OCD kicked in and you just had to change it over this minute. This hobby really can take control of people. I assume im like mostly everyone else here that just wanted to see the beam at first an settle on a laser or 2. This is too funny some members can take their time and do a build slowly over weeks. Im laughing with you LT. I feel bad now mentioning the defective driver lol. Yes though what a difference over 400mw more and a modded tail cap and you took RedCowBoys advice on a pic. How many more of these hosts have you left? meaning ill look for the next build:)

HI G,
Thanks for looking ,yes it was begging me bad not to achieve1W+ with this diode. The other driver was rated to 1.8A so i thought i would set it to1.2A . Well it didn't make it there only to1A and the pot was all the way up:( So i pulled out can old boost i had set it to 1.22A worked fine . but the one cell wasn't long enough to make neg- contact that's were the spring came in. I have a load of hosts sitting i keep buying them and stash them. And yes Red cowboy was right about the camera awesome but i'll practice more.

Hi Aiien,
Yes the more mA's you pump into some diodes you get a great shift in WL. The Oclaro 700 is one of them. It seems that few folks build the reds in a higher mA . personally i like them .Thank you so much for looking and your reply

Hi,A Thanks wasn't satisfied with just 800mW's . The 700 deserves more and 1W foots the bill perfectly. Reds are affordable and provide the ability to to keep me building.

Yeah, I had too many reds around the 800mW mark so the one I just made hits 1.3W with a Mits 500. Didn't bother to read the draw on it but it's obviously being pushed hard.
