Okay, I got my new style 200mw red laser from O-Like and it is extremely bright and burns great but when you shine it at a wall there is the dot and then around the dot is a ring of light. It is impossible to get a picture of because the dot is too bright and takes up the whole picture. Anyway, is this ring of light around the actual dot normal?

I believe I've seen what you're describing with all my lasers. The reason you can't photograph it is because it is created in your eye itself. The halo effect is caused as the light passes the lens of the eye.
If we're talking about the same thing, you'll notice that the ring gets smaller as the wavelength gets shorter. My red lasers all produce larger halos while my blue lasers produce a smaller halo. Green, of course, is right in the middle.
It could be I'm not describing the same thing as you at all, and it's all in my head..

Well I was actually able to get a photo of it. As you can see it is pretty big and noticable.

WoA now, that is interesting, but I think that might be caused by the focusing ring???maybe??? Not sure.

It's definitely not what I was describing... That's being caused by some sort of misalignment in the output optics. Asking Susie about it might be your best bet.
That "ring" is not a closed circle. The laser diode is spreading almost 180 degrees in an almost planar direction. So the "ring" you see is due to reflections from the laser light that is reflected from inside the laser housing. When this light pass the lens, the reflections are not in a correct focal distance so the light will be projected as an image of the inside of the laser housing.
Most DVDburner lasers have a more narrow beam, making it able to project more energy in one direction. However, most diode lasers are projecting the laser light as a line, spreading the light very wide in one plane, while having a narrow beam angular to that plane. You have probably that kind of laser.

Did you see the picture that I posted? Also, I'm not really understanding what your trying to say? Are you saying that it is normal? If you look at the picture I posted you will see that something is definitely not right.
