I've always taken DX descriptions with a bit of skepticism myself. I can barely see my Pulsar's beam in the dark. Maybe they really meant "Beam clearly visible in the daylight... during a total eclispe.) ;D

well it all depends on how you drive it i guess, my DIY dorcy mini uses a senkat diode at 134mw and is brighter than my 200mw MXDL using mitsubishi diode. its cause it supplies more voltage i guess

If KD doesn't ship my 50mW green laser soon, I'll cancel that order and order this one. I can't wait to read some of the reviews on this laser.

Good point toked323,

It might be a nice thin beam from that um... "unit". :D The Pulsar beam is a fat 4mm, so even at 100+ mW it's not very dense. Once the beam is focused down it's much more visible. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Hi iewed,

The KD 50mW "Edwina" is still one of the best buys out there, I wouldn't cancel it. It's so bright, small and tough I keep it in my bag and take it everywhere. It's been my most used laser by far. Plus, if you get a few pairs of the rCR2's ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.932 )you only need one type of battery and charger for both lasers.

You'll be happier with both, IMHO.

I bought the rCR2's, along with the Ultrafire Charger&Spacers in anticipation for the KD Edwina, I'm just a little frustrated that they said the laser would've shipped by now (I ordered it on the 21st) and it's still in the "Collecting From Suppliers" stage. I even e-mailed them asking, and they said they would have it in-stock&shipped by Friday.
But this will definitely be my next laser. I'm going to need to buy some safety goggles first though.

Yeah, KD sucks at shipping. I don't buy often from them because it always takes a month or more to get here to Canada. DX is much better, but hey, ya gotta go where the deals are... You'll love it when it finally does get there. Oh, and another thing. I almost started a fire in my (black) bag when the KD50 got clicked on accidentally. (it's an on-off clicky at the back and I still don't know what clicked it... :-[) Now I keep it in a nice Ultrafire holster to protect the switch. This red looks like it has a similar clicky, so I've ordered one for it as well. 200mW will do a lot more damage if the switch is as sensitive as the KD50s.

But it will probably have a fatter beam anyway. And about the visibility, my estimated 150mW dvd laser is has a barely visible beam in daylight with just a little dust and a 3mm beam diameter.
But I don't think a 50mW can be much of a fire hazard except if used on a match or other highly flamable stuffs.... :p

Yeah... but it burnt a nice hole in my bag liner (kind of a black ballistic nylon material) in the time it was on before the battery died. Because these rCR2s aren't protected, I was a bit worried about it happening again, natch!

Maybe it's just me but I can see a 5mW red beam in dimly lit rooms. Not in direct sunlight obviously, but I would think 200mW of red would be pretty visible, even with a fat beam diameter... But like I said, maybe it's just me.

And why does DX like to sell phallus-shaped lasers? :p

well, I am not sure if this is good or bad. If its up to spec ~200mW it could put an end to the DIY Red Burner. :'(

Like that's ever going to happen. People are always going to want to DIY red lasers, it's just that feeling you get when you build something yourself. Plus right now, with the open cans, people are capable of creating lasers that output close or over 300mW. [smiley=evil.gif]
