Those LPC diodes are teh shite. This is a lab bench style, all brushed-aluminum build with external and internal heatsinks, putting out ~250 mW at 500 mA. Drilling through aluminum with a dremel tool sucks, btw.

350mW, I presume Jayrob or Larry lens?

I pushed one of mine LOCs to 470mA, output is 244mW after Aixiz plastic lens, back opened.

Impressive job on the labby style host, It sure looks heatsinked enough to be run at 100% duty cycle.

How about pics of it's guts and power supply?

Also, how did you measure the power?
350mW seems a bit streched...

I didn't measure the output - I was basing it on an LOC LPC power/current graph calculated after an acrylic lens. You're probably right - if yours is a decent gauge, it must be more like 250 mW. I'm just using an opened up stock AIXIZ.

Guts are not so interesting -- just a DDL with the LM317 heavily heatsinked. I tested it with my modified PSU @ 12v, but now it's just running off a standard 9v battery.

Thanks! I like this one. Eudaimonium, I think I might actually go ahead and buy one of Jayrob's glass lenses, just to push this as high as I can...

I think he is also offering the optic piece by itself, you have to install it in the brass holder itself. but it is cheaper a lot I think.

At 0.5 A, and plastic lens I would aproximate output at 250-260mW, however if the back end is opened.
If Aixiz glass lens is used, then make that around 280mW.

It ain't getting over 300mW without jay's lens.

Sorry to burst your bubble but... :(

Get a good lens (and good cooling, which you have) and you could be seeing in this range. Current @520mA

Thanks, all! It took about 5 hours to dremel out a big enough hole in that heatsink and the chassis to accommodate its module :( . But it does its job. Which, I guess, is burning holes through my black shirts and impressing my geekier friends. Happily, today I finally received my red laser goggles from O-Like, so I can now use the thing without worrying about searing my retinas. :p

@Green , are you kidding me, 380mW after lens from LOC diode?
Damn! Takes some heatsink to dissipate that hellheat.
AWSOME! BTW, "Burning laser" on the box cracked me up

@Dvorhagen, good call on laser shades supplier!
Burn holes in everything except in retinas, does not matter whose retinas.
+1 reputation from me also!

:thanks:
I used a Modwerx heat-sink/module, stripped the coating off the Modwerx and pressed on this style of heat-sink and 20mm fan to the existing H/S.

That is awsome HS on diode , but what about the driver?
@520mA, my LM1117 heats up more than the diode !

Nice job!

Mighty labby laser!
Going for class IV red from LOC anytime soon?
Not too far to reach, it would take ~600mA and jayrob lens to accomplish it,
And an enormus output capacitor bank for slow-startup.

But could work...

I have ran this one at 600mA. To my disappointment, it only increased the output by around 30mW.
At 630mA there was no further mW increase.
LD life would be very short at 600mA, so I backed it down to 520mA
I was expecting < 1 hour LD life at 520, but now have close to 7 hrs.with no degradation of power.
If it died tomorrow, I have had way more then $10 worth of fun out of it, and I designed it so the LD can be swapped out in under 5 minutes.

It looks like 410mW is about the top end on a LOC. W/ short life times, of course. Class VI? NO! Close but no cigar!:undecided:
I also have the same build running an LCC @510mA. Same story, 400mW +/- seems to be about Max.

Oh, that sheds some new coherent light on the subject.

Anyhow, perhaps we need to find a high efficiency diode to achieve class IV power...

Or simply use a 1W 9mm can diode W/FAC, mount it inO-like 9mm housing and watch the magic happen. :D
