Need help with red LD from Sony DW-D26A?

Hi,

I'm new here at the forum and also to laser diode stuff but I have some electronics skills. I build a small driver based on the

LM317T
100 ohm Pot.
5 (for red LD) or 10 ohm Res.
1N4001
47uf
and the LD
+ 7.5VDC @ 1 Amp

using some info I read from this forum. I'm using a Red LD that I took off from a Sony DVD Burner Mod. DW-D26A but I can't have it to focus or do any burning at all, (I'm just using the LD on a small heat sink and no lens) don't know if it needs a lens to focus or what. It seem very bright (at the wall) on full power. With 5 ohm resistor (for red LD as per schematic) I have 225 ma across the output and LD @ full. I really appreciate some help here or inputs. Please easy on me, this is my first one.

I've put together a few video tutorials on how to build a laser pointer. However there is a ton of information regarding building red laser pointers in the red section. You'll find so much information on how to do it, it's mostly a matter of finding the host you want to use to build it.'

I suppose the most important thing is what are you trying to do in the end? Make a burning laser?

Yes, a burning laser.

Do you know the max. output of this LD (is a Red LD came from a Sony DVD Burner Mod. DW-D26A) that I'm using?
