my LG Orion here - Faulty.

so i went to pick my local parcelforce, paid the $140 customs charges and picked up my Orion.
brought it home opened it up, only to find the laser slightly faulty.
when i put the key in the key switch, instead of rotating 45-90 degrees and hearing a click and seeing the LED indicator, the key just carries on rotating 360 degrees without any click at all.
the LED indicator doesnt even light up, i have to press down the power button first then try rotating the key around and the LED indicator flashes on and off every now and then.
its very very tricky to get this laser to work. when it does work, it only works when the key is pressed in, in the key switch.
u cant even mount the laser anywhere because as soon as i let go of the key, the laser turns off. feels like a loose connection behind the keyswitch or it isnt aligned properly inside.
i have to say im VERY VERY pissed off having paid $560 for the unit and an additional $140 customs charges.
at this price me or anybody else would expect a nice working unit but this one is just alot of hassle.
basically to get the laser working u HAVE to press/hold the key in the key switch and keep it pressed in, the second u let go of the key the laser turns off.
im 100% sure this is not meant to be like this.
im honestly really pissed off about this id love to hear what laserglow have to say about this.
i have no choice but to return this laser, i cant use this faulty laser for my intended purposes.

Cool! Man you really lucked out. Because Laserglow is the kind of company that will take care of you. Sure, you're pissed right now...but see how ya feel when it,s over. I bet you get more than you expect. Anything can happen in the mail. They would Never do ya on purpose and these things are so sensitive it's not funny.

This exact same thing happened to my friend's Aries-175 after he dropped it on the tail end with the key still in it. He sent it back to LG and got a replacement.

got a quick response from justin saying sometimes the key can be too short to fully depress the switch and make a solid connection and that the key sent with this unit could be a fraction of a mm too short to click in properly.
hes sendin me a new set of keys which may work better hopefully.

This is part of the reason why we had the Aries housing changed to have a proper key switch in the tailcap along with the more reliable "minijack" style interlock. We're working with CNI to get the other models changed over (Orion, Vega, etc) but response time on this kind of design change can be slow when working with a Chinese manufacturer. I hope those new keys do the trick! If not, I have one more idea, so contact me when you get them and let me know how it works out.

ok so i got the new keys which looked a carbon-copy of the others but didnt make a difference a slight bit.
i tried to use the laser earlier and encountered another new problem - the end tailcap doesnt seem to screw in properly and its grazing off bits of the aluminium from the end of the laser, leaving chalk-dust like particles of aluminium.
wtf man this unit is meant to be brand new?
i have to admit im really dissapointed with the overall quality of the housing, the RPL makes this look like a toy.
im really unsure about what im going to do with this - ive had it since monday and already its giving me problems.
i bought this unit becuase it averaged over 296mw, i really dont want another orion now after what ive experienced.
i would be quiet happy for LG to replace this with a vega, if not i have no choice but to request a refund.

Sounds like the laser is fundamentally flawed and you just need to return it. Have you tried oiling the threads? If you get a refund you should try buying the scorch 300 on blazelasers.

Wow darklands, I am very sorry for your troubles w/ this unit. It will likely need to go to LG for R&R, I would like to hear how it gets worked out. Justin will want to make it right, he and LG are always there to support buyers when things dot work right. And darklands probably knows, but just in case, there would not be a second customs charge on the same goods, as it would be a return of the owners goods, not a new import. My Vega has same issue with 360deg. rotating key on the side. But it does not have to be pushed or held to be activated. LED lights up ONLY after button is pressed and then it takes 5 seconds to output beam. It took me like 10min to figure all this out specially the 5sec delay kept me scratching my head. (I would depress button after 3-4 and think something else was wrong

Be carefulll with the thread of the tail cap (if its not too late). Its very fine and I can see anyone easily skip thee threads when not 101% carefull. Specially because force is required to press on batteries with tail cap spring while you are rotating fine thread. Once you skip thread it will always tend to go wrong way and chip metal.

I hope this old CNI PGL bodies get all replaced.

Honestly, I don't understand why Orion 650 is still being sold, (or ever was) by a company as great as LaserGlow. Its a multi diode red laser with horrible divergence and beam profile. I understand maybe before when Pulsar was the highest powered red laser available. Now days there are tons of big and small sellers offering high powered reds for so much less and for single mode diode inside which makes it a great long range laser or burner. Orion has multimode diode that cannot be collimated well. Look at the specs. I'm surprised that they didn't at least put in single mode diode by now.

It is strange. Now you can buy a 200mw focusable red on dealextreme for 1/10 of the cost of an orion...
I'm thinking that laserglow has a bunch of them and is simply trying to sell them all out.
It would be great if laserglow posted some action shots of their DPSS 635 Orion and just had a clearance sale to get rid of their old orions 650's.

635nm Orion is not DPSS. Its also multi mode diode. I almost bought on befoe so I did some research on it. I decided to wait for at least some pics or review, but nothing came.

I knwo 635 Orion is over $1000, but it is most unique hand held laser out there, and at least it make sense to charge a lot for it. Orion is simply old model with crappy diode and still most expensive 660nm out there, which makes no sense.

ive been offered a repair,replacement or a trade with an aquarius-8mw.
on the LG website it states that all handheld lasers can be returned within 7 days for full refund minus 10% lab fee.
to be honest after what ive experienced with this laser, i dont prefer any of those options and quiet simply would like a refund. i am entitled arent i considering i recieved the unit in a faulty condition?
