Check out my new laser(s). This has got to be the most overkill GB laser ever built. Peltier cooling, custom machined aluminum and copper heat sinks, fits entirely inside flashlight without removing window. I'm running 160ma through the diode and it stays cool to the touch after minutes of running. This is a pic of the copper heat sink press fit to the laser module, the peltier, and the aluminum heat sink. The hot side of the peltier is glued with thermal adhesive to the aluminum heat sink and the copper heat sink is glued to the cold side of the peltier.

Here's the circuit I used for this.

Here's a pic of my first one. It uses the same circuit but with a 20ohm resistor and no peltier obviously. The resistor is just to lessen the current through the diode because the dorcey puts out about 330ma. I thought the round copper heat sink was enough but it burned out after about an hour of using it for 10seconds-1minute at a time. I haven't tested my new one to destruction and don't intend to but I'm sure I could leave it on until the battery went dead without burning out the diode. I don't have any pictures of my new one all wired up.

Um one word wow that is like awsome customed machine heatsink cooling and it fits into a flashlight amazing u could prob put more current into it to i think 160 is not enuf with that much cooling lol u should turn it up, (correct me if im wrong about the current).

EDIT: does anyone know how to keep it from showing the code on the size

Thanks. I think 160 is the point of diminishing returns and I wanted a laser i could have on continuously. Also I live in florida and the ambient temp is quite warm here. I'm sure I could crank it up to 200 but I'd rather not risk burning it out. It lights matches and fireworks and pops balloons already so I'm happy with where it's at.

Yeah if its pretty hot outside then that is good and since at that power it lights fireworks it should good for a while, You might want to consider later to build a driver for it (i dont know if you could put it in a flashlight tho)  The circuit regulates current and it is adjustable so u would have a nice smooth current flow to teh diode bad thing is it takes 6 volts to work.

You might also want to solder a capacitor across the pins of the diode to stop voltage spikes, be careful tho if the pin of the cap disconects and then reconects while its till on it will give a nice jolt to the diode and more than likely fry it.

EDIT: You do have a cap just noticed but u might want to make it higher a 47 uf is good also make sure the voltage level on teh cap is atleast twice teh voltage of the baterry.

The dorcey flashlight does have a driver circuit built in already. I did some testing on it with different loads and it acts as a current regulator that maintains a constant 330mA. Do I really need a larger cap? Anybody else have an opionion about the cap?

Very nice...I have been meaning to build a portable with a TEC but I haven't yet. I really like your heatsink...awesome. :D

Nicely thought out, nicely machined, excellent piece of work :)
