I recently tried myself but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The solder just seemed to drop through the gap and by the time I managed the blobs were huge and needed filing down. I cocked it right up whatever I did because I killed the driver

Wiping worked best for me. I tried using solder paste but that just bubbled up on the outer ring. Occasionally I would get a wipe that would work.
I guess running a small (uninsulated)!wire across would work too.
