Put the diode and heatsink in a host today. I use a 6-mode 1400mA AMC7135 driver from ebay (one mode is "off" so I'm calling it a 6 mode) and a bog standard ultrafire host (because that's what the biggest heatsink I had laying around was for and I have about 6 of the bloody things laying around).

I don't have an LPM so can't tell you what power output I'm getting. Lens is standard Aixiz glass (very interested in some decent 445 and 635 lenses if anyone has them at a reasonable price).

First, the beam profile at about 3 feet. Wings clearly visable:

The module before fitting to the host with a little smoke (OK alcohol spray and Mr Sheen:shhh:)

Beamshots (sorry about the poor quality, my daughter has been sacked as Chief photographer):

It compliments my identical 1.4W 445 Ultrafire build.

nice work bro! +1

I just finished my Arctic conversion with 1400mA 16mode driver :)
We should compare!

BTW whats the 1.014 on your DMM referring to?

Thanks bloke I'm a bit light on the reps and need all I can get!:thanks:
The DMM is reading 1014 mA - when I was testing the diode I left it running at an amp while I took photos. EDIT: its on the amps scale so thats 1.014A.

I'd love to LPM it, I'll buy one when I stop spending money of 500mW diodes and Argon lasers! I should drop them off to you to LPM when I'm in Sydney in a few weeks for a conference. Mind you the argon would be hard to get through airport security...:tinfoil:

I still don't think it was as bright as my LPC diodes were, it definitely takes 1-1/2 amps of current and its a different colour. Maybe the lens isn't great?

dont you need a test load to measure mA? i have a LPC-826 midway through a build, just need to install it into a host, but how do i measure the mA on that.
note: i have a multimeter

In that photo it was being powered by a lab power supply which has an analogue meter for the power readout. If I want to get better resolution than 100mA I need a DMM. Yes when I set drivers up I use a dummy load. For small loads I have a dead LOC diode that no longer lases but will take a few hundred mA. For larger loads I use a heap of diodes in series to set the driver up then check it with the laser diode before assembly.

hmm, no idea what you said in the first sentence, but no worries, i understand the rest, thanks!

an 'analogue' meter is one with a needle that goes passed a back plane with numbers on it, much like your speedometer on a car.

The problem as he said as its resolution was only in 100mA chunks, so if it was spitting out 1070mA, the meter would read close to 1100mA.

With the DMM he can get a 'digital' reading which was a resolution of 1mA which is a 100x more accurate.
