I don't know if anyone has tried this yet... I got the idea from Kenom's teenie burnerhttp://laserpointerforums.com/f39/teenie-burners-120mw-red-laser-pointers-55-ship-22596.html?highlight=teenie+burner. It's quick, easy, and fun. It's a cool paper weight for the desk too. I call it "The Cube"

The parts:
1.5" x 1.5" aluminum bar.
$5 LCC diode from DarkLasers
Aixiz module
Micro switch
3x LR44 batteries
Small spring
Set screw. (or press fit)

I cut the back end off of the aixiz module just a little shorter than the micro switch. Inserted the switch into the cutoff module, and thermal epoxy'd one of the switch leads to the module. I inserted this into the backside of my labby heatsink (it happened to be a press fit on this side). Next, I placed the 3 LR44 batteries into the labby, negative side toward the switch. Then I installed the LCC red diode into the aixiz module, and cut the negative and photodiode pin off. Finally, I soldered a small spring onto the positive pin of the LCC red diode and inserted it into the labby and secured it with the set screw.
It's nice and small, and it's a BURNER :eg:

No driver. I should have linked to kenom's thread, sorry. The LR44 batteries are weak enough to not "pop" the diode, yet strong enough to make it a burner.

Edited first post with Kenom's link.

wow that's really cool. I bet it's nice and heavy too. So you just drilled one hole all the way through right? Then inserted the switch and batteries, then the module?

^^Yep, basically. It's super easy. I put it to the buffer wheel and that helps with the looks. DX sells the batteries dirt cheap, so does Harbor Freight.

I bought the block from Onlinemetals (dot)com. They had a 9" "drop piece" for sale for $9. Shipping was about another $9, but I ordered some round stock as well. Most places will sell by the inch, if you don't want to order a long piece. It's also cheaper to ship if the weight is kept down.
