Finally got this puppy up and running, and not to mention looking pretty snazzy too!!

Its got an LG-GH22NP20 harvested diode running at 430mA.

Posted up some before and after shots and a beam.

Not really sure. dont have a meter. but im assuming somewhere around 300mW, it burns stuff real fast.

i suppose i should be investing in some goggles.

Good build, and I like the heatsink. You'll definitely need it using > 400mA! How long does it take the case to warm up?

hey thanx. well without the heatsink only probably 15-20 seconds after being on. With the heatsink though it can go for a few minutes before i even feel it. but i only did that once just to see how long it takes, im usually just running it for under a minute, then i let it cool down.

Very nice! I have that same DVD burner coming in today :) What driver are you using? I made a LM317 driver but this will be my first attempt at making a laser and I'm kind of worried I'll ruin it.

thanks man. well for about the same price as putting together a driver of your own (which are very very hard to fit into a pen) you can get one from Rkcstr at http://rkcstr.googlepages.com/home just make sure to always short your caps out before you even think about touching a diode to it.

That looks beautiful! What kind of powersource are you using?

hey thanks man.... its running with two 3.7v ultrafire AAA size. I have three 0.5v  drop 1N4001 diodes to drop the voltage down to the appropriate input before it hits the driver.

I just took apart my LG drive today... which diode is the red one? The weird flat thing with 4 pins?

Nope, its a three prong diode in a gun-metal colored heatsink. I'm at work right now but i'll try to post up pictures when i get back.
