OOOOOOOOOOOok..so i need some help here. In the mere future i will get a 16x DVD burner, and i already know how to extract the diode..-----after the diode is taken out, what should i attach it to?--as in--i don't want to just hook it up and kill the diode--i would like piece by piece info of how to connect it using a circuit board, and w/e else is on the board.

~~~~~~~~~~~thx :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?
Well heres a link to probably the best and easiest driver to construct, and its cheap too.
Although if your doing the kipkay one i highly doubt you will be able to fit that all in a minimag so more than likely you will need to make it out of one of these flaslights.
Oh and dont take the diode out of a 16x dvd burner, you can buy one and it wont be extraced so it will be in good condition without all those marks you get from trying to extract it, not to mention often breaking off the pins wall extracting
It would be much easier (and cheaper) to buy one of BlueFusion's driver preassembled! As for fitting in a flashlight.... doubt it. Try using a project enclosure from radioshack, tey run from $1.99 to $5.99. The small $2 should work, then just knok out some holes with a dremel, put in any type of switch you like (the one I will be doing has a saftey swith and 2 momentary switches on the sides for EXTRA SAFETY), then put it all together and you have your laser1
DEFINATELY buy the diode from sales.stonetek.org they are much cheaper and you will find it alot easier to handle as it already has the longer pins and is already installed in the housing.
For the driver look here (read the WHOLE thread to get his email address as this is vital to receiving) http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1195298965
Alright thx for the help. :) but i have a few questions first.
~~~~First is concerning the diode link posted by "wooooooolazer." In the link i clicked on the Sony 16x DVD diode--$19.50--it just showed the diode itself-i thought it came along installed already in the module? and with my luck, i would probably receive it in the mail, hook it up, and burn it out.
~~~~Second is with spinout059's link to the ""$4 FusionDrives?""" What is this board exactly? What does it have to do with the diode----and another thing---does this fusiondrive fit in the mini-mag flashlight?---b/c that (mini-mag) is what i am going for, for my next project.
No it wont fit in a mini-mag, thers practily no way to get a good circuit into a minimag because it is so small, altho i think one personed managed to get a whole circuit in it but i bet that took him forever.
are you kidding. there's plenty of room inside a minimag. I made a laser out of a keychain led light.
Yah, for the average person it can be extremely hard to fit a driver and make it work in a minimag, for example you would have to get some leads from an led put them in the contacts then hook those up to the circuit you would have to put on the side then get wires to go to the ld leads.. hard
Im sure its possible, its just hard...very hard.
