Huzza - First working Red that I didn't kill

As the title states, two other DVD Burner reds were killed before this one.

Found an aixiz in a dead laser level. Pressed the 4x DVD LD, focused as best I could, and tested various current levels. This is running at 95mA. Pushing is what killed my other 4x LD, and the 8x died for unknown reasons. LM317 is the driver...

The upper dot/right beam is my build, the other dot is a 1mw cheap pointer, and I was about 30' from the fence. Snow makes the beam sparkle nicely.

Congrats on your build...do you have any pictures of the host itself? -That is quite a throw for a 4x as well, are you sure the of the diode you had?

No host yet. I had the driver and the LD in the clips of a "3rd hand" hobby thing. The driver is the standard LM317, set at 95mA using the test load. And yep, it's a 4x burner, I harvested it myself. This one was either from the Toshiba or the BenQ drive.
