Hey Rich. I know you've made several 635nm builds over 1 watt and I have a question for you. I just got another ML501P73 diode and unlike the one I have in my stock, it doesn't have the Mitsubishi logo stamped on the bottom of the diode. Is that usual now? I noticed it missing right off and got another out of stock to compare and they are not the same diode.

Hi paul,
Well if they state it's a Mitsu 500 with no logo , hey when you buy diodes it is really a good thing to invest in a PSU to test the diode for efficiency first not all the same type of diodes are equal in output. There for this will determine what to set the driver at to conclude the correct current so you don't loose it. PSU units are cheap around $60.00 to $150.00 for a decent one. I paid $60.00 for mine and i wouldn't run a diode without it being binned first. Saves a lot of dead diodes and money. think about it ,you spend $60.00 on a diode well what about a PSU for the bench. If you want to build you need equipment and tools.
Ok that Mitsu 500 set to 1.3A's should do around 1+ watts. They are more forgiving that the Oclaro 700 diode at that setting in most cases. but remember the Mitsu is an open can and needs a tender loving hand and no dirt or dust. Oh don't forget your ESD practices to very important.. mat and wrist strap look at a good one not a cheesy one , goto Thore labs thats where i get my stuff, top shelf buddy. You get what you pay for and it will last a lifetime ..

Rich, yeah I've had a couple power supplies for years now. I bought this from Newgazer which is the same company as Techood, IIRC. I've bought from them for a long time now and this just caught me by surprise. That's why I asked you if this is usual. If not, I plan on sending photos of it to them and requesting a real ML501P73. I don't want to do anything with it yet. Just want to know if these are the same diode.

BTW, I've had a ESD matt and all my solder stations are earth grounded and the wrist strap is very worn from years of use.

Hi Paul ,
The chinese laser manufacturers are very shifty at times to make a sale totell you the truth i never came across a Mitsu without a logo stamp. first if the prices are comparable to the diode you bought from Them . I bought some diodes from them all were ok, i buy from Existostem if i'm spelling it right. And the guys name i communicate with is hey don't laugh..CACA .. if i buy multiple diodes he gives a nice deal on them ..
Het try it on your PSU it just might be a great diode i would be very curious thats just me pal

I've been checking that seller out for awhile, but haven't bought from him yet. Seems to have some good prices, but hasn't been on eBay for very long. If you vouch for him, I'll probably pull the trigger.

Hi paul,
If you buy from him and just say you want two diodes and they are 23.00 offer him 20.00 each if you buy two . he usually will take the offer or come back with a counter offer. I have bought a lot from him and he always comes through never a problem.
