If you have a fingerprint on the diode lense itself, you could be in trouble....disassemble it, and clean the diode ense with something that dries QUICKLY ! IT is glass, but it is fragile, too so be very careful !

i used my dads big lens cleaning kit to gently clean it after looking at it under microscope (pretty fascinating) i didn't damage it which is good :D.... ive got lenses and such in a little metal case just gotta put that into my laser case and wire her up.... question though the beam is very faint at night, this normal for red lasers? ( i can only get it for a second cos im just holding the pieces together :() i suppose red is allot less viable then green (i saw a chart here in the forums) though i expected more than a very faint line.... though up close this thing rocks! it can light a match easy ( i have trouble holding stuff still though) it burns through plastic quite happily and makes anything else thats black smoke :).. i should really get some glasses as ive been doing all of this by not looking at the dot, which really make it hard to aim... lol lasers are just soooo fascinating... anyway state of origin is bout to start ( HUGE rugby league game in queens land/ new south wales) one last thing though.... why do lasers glisten, like sort of sparkle, like looking at the unfocused diode everything shimmers when its hit by the light....

Laser beams sparkle because of dust, pollen ,etc in the air.....even in a VERY clean house, they will still find whatever is floating through the air, and make it sparkle - that is what attracted me so much to the greens to begin with - the sparkle.....it is fascinating to see the reds sparkle, too !

sorry i was in a rush last night cos of the game i meant why do objects sparkle like shining my unfocused red at a pen doesn't look like a red diode light it looks... different lol, almost liek it has millions of bright specks that stay still... i think the beam shining is because of Rayleigh scattering which is when particles that are smaller than the wavelength of the laser ( like air/water molecules) are in the lasers path. i think that was in my physics book....

well well this little laser is really coming along... i now have a focusable laser in a bright orange case (cringes) .... only problem is when i turn the end to focus it the laser flickers.. its because the contacts moving around on the battery is there some sort of conductive gel that will help?

would you be able to show us a picture of your housing? I'm curious if your using a mini mag like the one I've got above everytime you apply pressure to the tip it's going to press down on the "switch" that turns the maglight on and off. there really isn't much you can do to prevent that. IF your using something else, I'd have to see it and see it's connections to determine why it's doing it. Conductive gel isn't going to make a difference if it's just a bad contact. The only thing I can recommend is make sure your connection against the batteries are nice and tight. It doesn't take much for this to lose connection.

unfortunately i dont have a camera, lol its a very cheap case. i have a piece of metal with solder on it that attaches to the +ve terminal and a short wire to my diode......... im pretty sure its just movement on the battery just bugs me a little ... but other than that its awesome :D ill try to get picks of this laser and my other when i get my camera back off a mate who's had it for AGES.... thanks for the help tho...
