He asked for a RED laser. go to o-like.com or possibly dealextreme depending on where you live. you can save money by getting a low mw red like a 200mw. thats what i have. it outputs 176mw and pops balloons and lights matches.

I saw the post and it was just a joke :P if you look under the red "burner" i gave a link to get him started ya it says its a guide for Green but if you actually open the link you will see it has a section reviewing the popular laser sites and some of the bad

Cool Re: hig powers red laser

Hey buddy, if you want a >400mW red laser then you can either buy 2 200 mW diodes or modules w/ diodes and driver and use mirrors to combine the beams or you can give this a try(http://cgi.ebay.com/High-Power-Laser...item2a03745799) . if you wait a couple of weeks I will let you know how it works out and if its worth the cash.

Another way to make a over 400 mW red laser is with a red C-mount diode.

Cool Re: hig powers red laser

Ya red c-mount diode is really nice! can diodes are easier though for the beginner to hook up . not to mention the c-mount ones in the 400-500mW range are usually more expensive, as are cans. Its up to the individual, but I think making a jig with optics and mirrors is more fun.
250 mW red cans from 6x blue ray sleds are only $9 each from Hightech deals and rkcstr drivers $13 from Ryans site.

It will be hard to find a very good one, as these aren't really popular. I think that you would be better off with a 12x blu-ray, as these can reach 600mW, can focus smaller, burn almost any color the same, and you can get a custom built one for a few hundred dollars. But if you really want red, I would only choose this one: http://www.laserglow.com/GOR

You could easily make a multi-watt red C-mount laser, it's just not easy because C-mount modules are hard to make.

That's true. If he can't make a C-mount module I think there are some members here that could for the right price.

The 200mW red dilda is the best red burner for the money. If you absolutely need over 400mW of red, there are 3 ways to go. As mentioned, combine the output of two LOC or LCC red diodes with a PBS cube, this being the cheapest way of the three. The next way is a 1W red 9mm can diode in an o-like 9mm housing with lens. Try to get a red 9mm diode with fac if at all possible. FAC (fast axis collimation) is a lens built onto the diode at the factory. It corrects the terrible fast axis divergence that makes these diodes so hard to use. Without fac, the burner will not be as good.
The third way is to use a c-mount red diode. You must machine a module yourself for it, none are available commercially. Again, get a diode with fac if at all possible.

If you want an ajustable focus laser that can produce a beam over distance, use the first option with two diodes and a cube. This will be best beam quality of the three and produce a beam or burning spot as required.

The 9mm and c-mount are more powerful, but it can be difficult to find these with fac. These diodes, especially the c-mount, can be very expensive to buy. At one point, o-like had a 1W red c-mount for $800 USD ! These diodes turn up on ebay regularly as well, but are not dirt cheap. These will typically only be focusable to a burning point a few inches from the laser (using a normal glass lens) unless you want the size and high cost of full beam correction optics including cylinder lenses and anamorphic prisms.

There is also a 671 nm red DPSS system, however I am not familiar with commercial availability, I think CNI had modules for those, and I think WickedLasers uses them in their 400mW+ red handhelds.

Would probably turn out more expensive than 9mm diode build though

When are you posting that neat 1W red build , Bill ?

Oh boy, 1k posts! Finally, gotta shoot Cold a PM now,
