Divergence/Beam diameter make a lot of difference when it comes to the beam brightness. The tool don´t consider this. That´s my point.

Infinitus - Nope, I don't even have a real LPM, I just have a DIY instrument, I have a 445nm at 1.15 A through Aixiz glass lens, and it measures 1W flat, while that would actually be more like 800mW, so with 20% off while it measures my red at near 600mW, I'd say it's somewhere right about half watt.

I have not observed any ill effects from running the laser for a bit lonber periods of time. Heat can be felt nicely through the host after 15-20 seconds of operation.

Awesome... can't wait to get one of these and abuse it. Going to be a while until my host gets here though.

Wish they would row faster on that slow boat:p

My diodes just showed up this afternoon. I should have a build up and running in a couple days (waiting on some new drivers).

Yep, RHD should ad an optional beam diameter parameter to compare the brightness more accurately. But what is the equation that should be used here? Something like "50% wider beam is 50% brigher"? We need to do some research on this.

Happy to do that if someone can devise some solid math to back up the specifics.

Apart from the 650-G lenses (of which I have one on order) what's the current consensus as to the best lens for these?

- Acrylic
- Acrylic Coated
- Aixiz Glass Uncoated
- Aixiz Glass Red Coated (are these still around?)
- Aixiz Glass 405/445 Coated

?

and the O-like lens. Also I would like to know what the specs would be with an optima lens.

I tried with a Aixiz glass 405/445 and it was terrible... Didn't even reach 300mW at 700mA. Uncoated acrylic got me around 370mW at 700mA. I'm planning to get Aixiz glass coated for red.

Isn't the o-like lens the same as the aixiz glass?

The Optima lens would make divergence even worse. We want to expand the beam, not shrink it.

You actually tried it? Why would you even try using a lens coated for wavelengths on the other end of the visible spectrum?
