Once you have developed a solid game there is no need to lower your standards. :beer:

Sorry for the thread jack, but we have to wait till Mon/Tue anyway, so at least it will keep the thread alive, and at the top of the list.

Not < $30, but you can rip out the beam shaping pair from the non-functioning 473nm lasers. The AR coating is for IR, but not terrible for red. Plus you get a powerful 1.4W IR diode, optics, power supply, and a great labby host. Total cost is about $47 shipped.

I've got one of those prism pairs sitting around. I got mine same as you mentioned. I'll try it out...or sell it if someone wants it.

so do you guys think that this will correct the beam enough to use in a scanner?

Could one fix the divergence by bending a mirror? I've been wanting too try this but I don't have the materials nor tools needed to test.

It would be just like using a cylindrical lens, but with less loss (assuming FS mirror).

However, it'd be way more difficult to set up and I'm not sure it would be worth it.
