The SL host may be faster but it will also be more expensive overall. Your original lineup from post #135 is still what I would suggest.

Acrylic lenses aren't all that bad but I am not a fan. From personal exp their threading degrades if you use the laser a lot and they can take more damage if the laser is dropped. Because they are a single element and the holder is short and black they create less "wings" on the dot but I'm still not a fan of them. If you go the cheaper and slightly slower route to get your other parts then the money you save can be put into a G2 lens that would blow all the other lenses away as well. You could probably ask DTR if he would give a bundle price for the diode with a G2 if you are thinking about that.

Don't get me wrong on SL BTW, Gary cool and has some unique things but sometimes his prices need a little work and the host kits lacking pills is a new thing that's kinda messed up IMO. I forget what shipping is from SL as well, DX is free.

EDIT: The ultimate lens for this would be a LFL from Lazeerer if you can get a hold of him. He sells them for a great price and they are unparallelled for making the most spectacular beams that travel insane distances and they are cheaper than G2s.

Gary is a great guy, he is very co-operative. I agree though, his prices can be a bit high, especially his kits, his stainless-steel host is alright for price though :) He now has first class shipping with is about $10-$14 but he still has the other, faster shipping (forgot what it's called) that is about $20.

I'm thinking I'll get the C6 from DX purely because it costs less and shipping is free. Is there any advantage of THIS over THIS?

Although the lense from Lazereer does sound good, I think I'll just get the 635nm-660nm AR Coated Three Element Glass Lens for $8.60 from DTR.

DX is cheaper but SL ships theirs out faster. If you are going to get the host from SL i would get the sink from him as well, they have different coloured anodized ones as well.

If you want an exotic color anodized heatsink get it from survival laser otherwise get one from Moh, his are cheaper and you can combine shipping with your driver from him.

The SL C6 and the DX C6 would be identical in design and quality. It's actually likely that the SL C6 are actually from DX in the first place lol.

The 3-element lens is a good budget option. There is a reason they are the standard lens used around here. Maybe ask DTR to toss in an acrylic so you can mess with both.

I may actually stock C6s and sell them as budget kits myself. I'm thinking $20 for the kit(complete host and aluminum heatsink) would would go over well with people trying to save some cash.

I think I'm going to buy my C6 from SL instead of DX, I might also buy THIS heatsink from them as well. Can I get the driver from SL as well? I think I may as well if I'm getting the host and heatsink from there as well. So which driver should I get?

Moh sells the black anodized heatsink a little cheaper but its only economical if you buy the driver from Moh as well since SL does not have a driver that would work. If you do get the SL host you will also have to buy the pill since they don't include one.

You could also try a hightecdealz red diode with a ghost driver. Just a suggestion though.

IMO, DTR's 650nm diode is better than LPC-826s. DTR's 650nm diode comes already pressed into a custom copper module so its easier to work with and way higher quality.

Okay, I have purchased a 638nm laser instead! However, the next laser I get will be built my me :)
