Hey Larry, what does the mounting procedure involve? What does it look like? I'm curious, since the alignment of the die is very important for lens performance...

Here is a photo of my 4-Wire Red mount in an Aixiz module:

Alignment is good with this pairing,
and heak sink compound enhances the thermal coupling.

I plan on mounting the 3-wire using the same method.

I got a damaged 3-Pin Red yesterday from MISTERWILLING.

It had the top off, so I measured the actual length of the Red oscillator.

It measured 2mm which is the actual length of LG's new hi-power 400mw red diode.

Also tested 3 different AR-coated short F.L. lenses on a LOC Red,
for his 3-laser scanner that he is building.

Larry, nice diode mounting method! Simple enough, so I assume it can be easily aligned to the lens as such?

ossumguywill;

Is it a 3-wire or 4-wire Red laser diode ??

If you extract it, take some photos if possible.

Dave - I still have a couple, but I am going to test one 3-wire to the failure point.

I got an Optiarc 24x today. This appears to have the 3 pin diode in it.
I haven't harvested it yet.

Im getting a little confused by all the info here, am I right to say that even though the focus of these drives (blu ray) that these diodes are coming from??? is progressing.
The reds alongside them are still being developed also, or are these existing diodes that were just overlooked?

Jay --
It appears that these flat diodes were overlooked for a while because they didn't fit our design modes. They don't fit a 5.6 module therefore -- JUNK. Thanks to Larry, these may be the new red diode style and we are as a hobby, getting ready for them. Read, study and learn -- that's what we're about here.
Red diodes still have a place in RGB or RGV projos.

First raw info from my Optiarc.

3.1 volts 400 mA 290 mW

Seems to run cool without a module. This is an oddball mounting problem for sure.

Larry --

This is an odball housing for sure. I'm thinking of busting the heatsink to smaller, machining an Aixiz to hold it and then locking it in place with UV cure glue followed by thermal glue.
So far, My readings are similar if I use a JAYROB 650-G-1 lens. I agree that there is little heat into the sink. Somewhat amazing.

Damn, We gotta love doing these builds at the leading edge.

I wish others would join us here instead of drama.

Hydro whatever ---

Good timing here on your question!!!!! I was asking the same myself.
Here it is with the wings I intend to cut off so the die is mostly centered. UV glue will set it in a machined Aixiz.
