While not my first laser this is my first "build". I began with one of those cheap "250mw" red modules. Next, I drilled a hole in an altoids case 1/2 inch wide (no easy feat!) and realized that the battery pack it came with doesn't fit into the case... So like any self respecting person I glued the crap out of it to the bottom of the case. The switch became inaccessible however and i wanted a button either way so I cut the stupid alligator clips off and gently chucked them as hard as I could into the trash can. Now using my less than adequate soldering skills i melted through 3 buttons and proceeded to fling hot solder on my hand. Now with some expert scotch tape mounting i finally succeeded in soldering a button to the wires and drilled ANOTHER hole in the case to allow for the wires.

This quickly turned bad didn't it...

Anyway here are the results of my labor:

Hahah, love the writeup.

Nice job getting a working laser your first time! As long as it works, right?

Pretty "funny" writeup. I've made almost 10 of these in various tins and many other members put one together at some point for the novelty of it although I suppose I have enough that they aren't a novelty at my house. Most common ones I put together use an lpc826, aixiz driver, couple of LiFEPo4 cells and regular acrylic lens which give around 320mW although they hit just over 400mW with a glass lens. Great bang for buck and great little project. +REP for sticking it out.

Haha i made a green one with a module that i cannibalized from another laser too but its held together by aluminum foil so its not something in proud of XD
