Hello i am 14 and think I am responsible enough to handle this laser without hurting or damaging anyone’s eyes. If I got it I wouldn’t let any of my friends use it without understanding the true power of it. I want it for Christmas and my mom said its fine but after she looked it up she said no but I tried to convince her and she is reconsidering it again. What are some things I should say or point her out that would make her be ok with me owning this laser

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance, Drew

To be honest I don't really know what you can tell her but the truth, it is a dangerous object if mishandled, you could tell her that you will wear the safety goggles ( your getting those as well I assume ) whenever you handle the laser, and keep it hidden with the batteries out and stored separately when your not using it, so it cant be accidentally turned on or toyed with by your friends.
Best of luck, be safe.

I would say that you should listen to your Mother - who are we to question the judgment of some kid's parent(s)?

If Mom says NO - then that's that. End of discussion.

Don't bring your Mom here. I'll tell her you're not mature enough to have a laser. You have started two threads here. One shows that you don't respect the rules of this community. Instead of reading and learning, you decided to avoid the "spirit" of the rule while literally adhering to the "letter" of the rule. That shows that instead of thinking about why a rule exists and working within the rules, you look for a way around the rule.

Then there is this thread. In this one instead of thinking about what your Mom is concerned about and showing that you understand her concerns and laser safety, you come here hoping someone can just tell you the "magic words" that will "trick" your Mom into giving you what you want.

You are NOT ready to study, learn, understand, and abide by laser safety. Ask for a new IPOD instead.

Peace,
dave

Drew --
Dave is a respected member here -- You don't get respect yourself by sending gramatically poor trash against him.

Good luck and be safe with your laser.

Merry Christmas

I thought the people on this fourm were gonna play nice but i geuss not. Thanks xmtgx for not being a dick. btw daguin my mom said yes and i allreay have an iphone so you can fuck off and stop thinking your the shit cause u have a high rep. you didn't have to come here and say negative things you could of just stayed out of the discussion.
I don't think 14 year olds should be swearing like that, also dave is a great guy and is highly respected by most of the people on here. This is a public forum, dave can put in his say if he wants. What he said was not in any way negative, just his honest opinion.

the laser you want is focusable, if I were you I would keep it unfocused when not in use just in case someone does turn it on it won't be focused and possibly hurt someone

Is there any way i could solider one of those key switches and drill a hole in the side for added safety?

No that would be very hard. Plus key switches are there so other siblings or people who are unaware of it's power don't use it. If your mother is worried about how YOU use it than that is pointless anyway.

Bottom line I'm not a parent so I'm not gonna act like one and tell you your too young/immature or whatever. What ever you do with it is your business. Anyways if your parents think your too young, immature, naive to have one than don't expect advice on how to convince them. Especially after throwing a tantrum like that towards one of the most knowledgeable members here. He is a professor for Christ sake!!

This thing is not a toy! I know you have surly heard this. It will blind you!!! Think for a moment about what that means. Close one eye and see how limited your vision will be. Now imagine being like that for the rest of your life because you wanted to light matches. If you think it's cool to burn stuff and light matches than you may be wanting it for the wrong reasons.

Sorry if this wasn't the welcome you expected at this forum. :(

I don't wanna come across as a jerk who assumes your another little kid so all I can say is, before your receive it, to spend a little time in here and around the web learning how to be safe with it. People here are willing to help if you with questions concerning lasers as long as you are polite and act mature.

Be safe and Merry Christmas!!! ;)
