DX 200 collimating lens (and small mod)

My DX200 arrived yesterday.  I notice the collimating lens assembly is three optical elements.  Its questionable if all three let alone any are AR coated.  I think perhaps one is going by the faint blue bloom it has.  Anyway, I replaced all three with a single AR coated collimating lens out of an old DVD burner.  Gives me a bit more power that is visibly obvious though I haven't measured it has my current PM only goes to 100mW.

Oh, it pulls bang on 300mA at 6.0V as measured using a lab power supply. It pulls more current (320mA) if I up the voltage carefully to 6.5V....does this thing even regulate?

It does regulate, but I think the consensus has been that they are out of regulation at only 6v. The recommendation is to use two 3.6v batts and set the current with those. The problem is they crank the pot up to get the desired current (while out of regulation) so that the actual current while regulating is much higher.
