Hello everyone,

I'm kind of a noob in building lasers so I need some help. I've extracted a red LD from a DVD burner, put it in a module (just like an aixis, but the cheaper one from Cool Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets on Sale, Free Shipping for all New and Cool Gadgets at MiniInTheBox) and made some longer pin to the LD+ and LD-. The only thing I need is a driver for this diode because I burned my last one when I didn't use a driver but only 2 AA batterys.

so I need to know:
  • Which driver to use
  • Where to buy such a driver

I want to put the whole project in a ledtorch (like kipkay's one)

Sorry for my bad english
Thanks

Would a Flexdrive power that? I believe DTR sells them in his online laser shop.

Great guy btw, fast shipping, highly recommended.

Hmm not really cheap, I think I'm going for a DDL driver by making it myself. Thanks for the idea btw ;)

...AixiZ is just the start. Wait till you find out how big of a money pit this hobby really is :) it's fun tho.
You can build your own driver, but size wise they're harder to fit into a host.( flashlight etc) that's why I buy the drivers from dtr because they're smaller. Other people here on the forum sell drivers too for around $15-20. Search around lazeerer is one. Also check into http://www.survivallaserusa.com/

thanks. I've been to DTR's site but can never understand what each driver is intended for so I haven't moved forward and asking question's on this forum is a NO NO.....so many veterans with NO patience with new members or slow learners. no everyone picks up this stuff as quickly as others. Thank You

Well recently new members have asked frustrations questions like: "how can I burn stuff? Do I need googles?" Powerful lasers are fun but dangerous. It is recommended you start with lowered powered lasers and work your way up. Like you guys.
Go about it in a mature manner and you will be good.

The best thing to do( like I did when i was new) is to Poke around the forum to find your answer. Use the search bar to see if your question has been asked.

Then if you need help ask. Tell me a bit more about your projects and I can point you in the right direction.

Thats right, the size is a problem but I moved my project to a white project-case with more space. I'm going to solder it all together today. Hope it works!

Btw. Is it safe to use an 9v battery for a DDL driver? I don't want to leak a lot of heat in the waterproof case where it can't just flow away through the plastic.

Thanks
