in which drives LOC diodes are easy to extract?

I found that extracting the diode from the GH22NS50 drive is very difficult
The Diode seems to be glued to some kind of a radiator.
Is it the same for all new drives?

Can you recommend me a drive from the following list?
Samsung S222A
Samsung S223B
LiteOn iHAS124-19 black
LG GH22NP20 OEM black
LG GH22NS40 black
NEC AD-5240S-01
NEC AD-5200A-0B black
NEC AD-7241S-0B

why do you want to spend extra money for the drive when your gonna throw most of it away? buy a sled and save a few $$.. they only cost ~10$..

I'd love to, but I live in Russia and I do not know any local shops. Shipping from usa costs some money and it is very slow.
So i do not have much choice

By radiator, you mean the diode is in a little gray square or rectangle? You can usually free the diode from this by grabbing the edge of two opposite sides with pliers and gently twisting the square back and forth. The diode will pop free. Hint - practice on the IR diode first, or on a valueless CD player diode!!! When you know you can do it, free the red.

Yes. I've tried your method on the red diode, since it is already dead. I twisted it quite violently, the diode popped out a little, but still it is not free.
Maybe you can suggest a drive from the list from which i can extract the diode with less effort?

The problem may be in my hands but i think i need another diode to be sure .

Yes, in fact it is cheaper. LPC-815 660nm red laser diode costs only $13.49 . Mail shipping from USA to Russia AFAIK costs more than 10$. So it is 23.5 $ +~2-3 weeks of waiting.
DVD drive in Russia costs about 30$, plus you get a 780 nm infrared laser and no waiting.
Of course there is a problem how to get the diode from the drive, that is why i've posted my question.

I can sell a PHR or LPC diode to anyone, anywhere in the world for $13, or sell the diode in an Aixiz module for $17.50 - PM me if you're interested. If you would prefer to use a DVD drive still, however, I personally use a rotary tool (dremel) to remove diodes from their heat-sinks, unless they are thin and fragile, like the PHR-803T's heatsink, which can be snapped using two pairs of pliers.

I am fairly certain that a lot of those DVD burners do NOT have the LOC you are looking for.

One drive that has been reported to have a LOC is the Samsung SH-S222.

Or the Pioneer DVR-115D – 20X.

Or the Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7190A 20x burner.
