Just checking if I missed anything..

I'm using a lpc-815 diode from drew,
A housing from O-like ( http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=964 ),
A fixed driver from rckstr @ 420mA,
And a project box

Going to assemble it like this:

So will this work fine?

loks fine to me..

you could put the driver into the module if theres enough space. for a even smaller laser

Yeah... that's one of the best ways to blow the Driver and Laser Diode...

If... like in your drawing... you are using a FlexDrive....
the FlexDrive MUST have a load attached
when running or it will overdrive and blow...

Aiiieee! That will kill your laser diode and your driver in one go. Like the previous poster said, put the switch before the flexdrive.

Hey Jerry, could you explain this some? What exactly do you mean by loads? I thought that (other than the switch placement) his setup was fine.

anyway it is good that you asked otherwise you should blow everything..

Hey ThOughts...
The FlexDrive is a Boost current driver circuit...
For this driver to regulate the current to the load... the output voltage of the driver will rise until
the selected current is achieved.
If you do not have a load on the output of that Boost driver.... the output voltage will increase to
over the maximum allowed and the driver has a good chance of being damaged.
I'm sure "drlava" could explain it in more detail... :cool:

Hey ThOughts...

Can you not just use the test load to set the driver, desolder the test load, solder the diode and power supply? I'm still quite unsure what kind of load you're talking about if it's going in the final build.

"Load" does not just mean "test load". The laser diode is a load (call it a "real load") for the driver as well. With the original design, the driver would commit suicide as soon as the switch was open as it would increase output voltage ever more trying in vain to get the current flowing - or if it didn't, it would kill the diode with an overvoltage spike as soon as the switch would close.
