maybe it's unfocused. Buy some safety googles, and when wearing them turn the cap until the dot is very small. You can't see the dot without googles, because it seems blurry.
if it keeps not burning, you've got 1 month warranty. They'll change it for a new one. But KEEP THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE, they'll ask you for a picture of it.

You have to turn the focusing head so the dot is smallest at what you are trying to burn.

i never would have thought how many people don't realize that you have the focus a laser for it to burn anything.... i think people are used to the green lasers that are not able to focus.. or key chain 5mW lasers which can't focus as well.

Yes. It looks like a flying saucer. It is an artifact of the construction of the diode. It is NOT a problem. It shows that you are actually getting it in focus

I have the same feeling you have. I received the dilda at the beginning of may, and also trying to focus it at the best with quite closed eyes (I'm waiting for the arrival of the specific safety glasses), I have been not able to do more than flare a match at 1 inch of distance with fresh batteries. After focusing the point for a distance of 2 inches, I can point it on the palm of my hand and keep it for one minute without any burning sensation, while my DL Viper 95 mW, also with quite exhaust batteries, after few seconds it hurts!
Well, I shall not tear off my hear ;D for the 58 $ I have spent; now I'm just curious to see the real power of my dilda, test that i'll perform with the arrival of the LaserBee I I have just ordered.

Your skin absorbs green much easier than red, that is why the DX red one won't burn you. It takes longer for red to burn me than green of the same power.FrancoRob said:

Yeah Styropyro, you're right, but dilda is supposed to have an output power of about 200 mW (maybe less), against a 95 mW of the Viper GW. Anyway I cannot state anything for sure till I'll get the 655 nm safety glasses for an accurate focusing and the LaserBee I for test the output power. Another thing that isn't so clear for me is how much time do 2 CR2 batteries last (that is, giving proper power); I made the test on my palm after about half of an hour of use, also if diluted in some days.

Hi Danaomaii, I've just received my new pair of 655 nm safety glasses, now I can surely say that my problem was on focusing: with the proper focus (the red point is really very little), I flared a match distant two feet within less than one second, so now I can say that both styropyro and sk8er4514 were right about focusing. What I can suggest you is to get the right safety glasses.

also the threads on the dilda can be screwed in to much on the cap causing it to not focus enough you may have to unscew the lense a bit from the cap to obtain the proper setting your looking for

Hi John, thanks for the info but it is not my case, for what I know:I have checked the focusing range from 1 inch till to 13 yards (the max distance I can achieve in my flat); what I have found is that the "best" focusing point is not easy to achieve, expecially for far objects if you have performed a previous focus at short distance. In this case the divergence is so great that you don't see any red light on the focusing object at all!

What I can add is that one thing is focusing, and another is burning: I have not been able to flare a match in a reasonable time (within ten seconds) at a distance exceeding 80 inches :-[! So, what I'll have to do is to check the output power with the arrival of the LaserBee I. So, I'll be back in the future.

doesnt sound right, I focus mine (without safety glasses, dont flame me) and can light a match from 12 - 15 feet in 5 - 10 seconds :-?

I know it sounds a bit basic, but have you checked your batteries on a multimeter? I bought a couple of rechargable CR2s from DX with mine, and one of the batteries is consistently down to about 1.8v after being fully charged. Sometimes I can charge it out if its low voltage, but other times I can't.
The beam still looks good and bright, but it won't burn anything.
I also observed that it burns better with 3.6v batteries than 3.0v ones.
