Hi here i'm new to this forum. I'm very interested in laser and after searching for the information for a few days and i'm start buliding my first laser pointer. Now i want to build a burning laser using my old dvd-rw diode. i was refered to the instrustion video on youtube and i have successfully remove it from my dvd. It seem that the diode need a circuit to drive. Can i simply replace the diode of the cheap red laser pointer with my dvd-rw diode. i was wondering if it work on my diode and i'm afraid my diode will "gone".

Thanks for your helping.

no you'll need a better driver -an aixis housing well a crap load of things

1) diode -bluray or red it depends on what you want

2) driver  homemade rkcstr or a dr lava flexdrive

3) look in buy sell trade area for these

4) you havent read enough here if your asking these noob questions
not dissing you you need a bit more reading though  ;D

Hi john thanks so much for your quick respond. Yes i know i need a housing but i'm not going to buy one because:

1. i have a few spare of cheap red laser pointer and i want to reuse them.
2. i am from hong kong and it may be some trouble for me to purchase here.

i see that there are a circuit board behind my cheap red laser pointer so i'm asking if i can use it for my 16x dvd-rw diode. thanks

Lol you are from hong kong and you say you may have problems getting laser parts?

Hillarious that we are all buying 99% HongKong made parts.

HongKong is the cheap laser house lol

you cannot use the housing in your cheap red pointers unless it accepts standard diodes or you modify it to. Even then focusing would be hard. Its better to buy a module from hightechdealz or stonetek.

good luck :)

HI i'm refering to kipkay's "Laser Flashlight Hack!" on youtube to build my own burning laser. The aixiz housing introduced in the video seem to have a circuit (a driver??). i was wondering if that housing is the $5.99 one stonetek.org selling. If so am i still need a dirver to run the diode?

Please don't hook your diode directly like he did to the batteries. I think the driver in the axiz housings uses a photo diode to control the output and I don't think you can use it on a burner diode.
