Any overspec 5mw's?

I know greens and violet pointers that are rated 5mW, are usually way overspec up to 40 or even higher. The first laser I bought was an el cheapo 5mw red, the typical starter, but that didn't seem overspec at all. More like underspec, actually.

Are there any red lasers for sale that go up to 40-50mw's like the other regular colors do? E.g. NEW Ultra Powerful Red Laser Pen Pointer Beam Light 5mW - eBay (item 160498120209 end time Oct-26-10 07:38:20 PDT) . How much output should I expect?

Side note: I have had a 200mw for several years so I don't want it for brightness or burning power, I don't expect that from such a laser.

I wouldn't expect anything over 5mW from that...I suggest just ordering one up to the power you want. I have had good success with Screambuy and you get good quality for pretty cheap!

10mW 650nm fixed dot red laser pen (Wgp-001)

There is a 10mW but you can look through all of their different style pens. Hope this helps!

I am glad to say that the < 5mW red pointer I purchased was actually < 5mW...
sometimes, you really don't want dangerous pointers ;)

Most green 5mW green lasers are over spec. Thats because they use crystals to generate the green beam. Green lasers are called DPSS lasers. Because of the major fluctuations in crystals, and aliment, usually the worst ones are classified 5mW. That is why you can get anywhere from 5-50mW swing.

Low powered red lasers use a diode. Its easier for them to create a diode to fit its purpose. They dont use external crystals, so the specs are more precise. So your 5mW reds will only fluctuate around + or - 5 mW.
